HOUSTON -- The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding roster move, left-handed pitcher Will Ohman was optioned to Iowa.

Gallagher will wear No. 36 and is available for tonight's game in Houston at 7:05 p.m. CT.

Gallagher, 21, begins his third stint with the Cubs and has posted a 5.73 ERA (7 ER/11.0 IP) in five relief appearances with the big league club. He picked up his first career save July 18 vs. San Francisco, tossing the final 4.0 innings of a 12-1 victory at Wrigley Field. He made his big league debut June 9 at Atlanta, tossing 3.1 relief innings

This means a lot more of Scott Eyre, now our only lefty. But I agree with the move, it's stupid to keep a lefty just to keep one.

There is a benefit to not living in Chicago. I won't see that.

Isn't Ohman out of options?

Does that mean he's a FA?

At least Gallagher gives us a long relief option.

I thought giving up a HR to Bonds was my last straw... you should've seen me Sunday when Ohman was walking to the mound...

Then the prick gives up a bunch of runs. Good riddance.

ChicagoSports.com wrote:Will Ohman's latest attempt at clearing up his name was not received well by his teammates, manager and general manager, and could lead to an off-season divorce from the organization.

Ohman appeared Friday on the "Mike North Morning Show" on WSCR-AM 670, apparently to defend himself from speculation he was embellishing a minor arm ailment to avoid reporting to Triple-A Iowa. Ohman told the station the Cubs doctors knew of his arm problem and that he had been hurting for 2 1/2 months.

He said Tuesday the Cubs trainers knew his shoulder was "barking."

One player walked up to a group of reporters Friday and pointed out that Ohman never reported early to the ballpark to have Cubs trainers work on his arm.

"You can't not show up and then say you're hurt," he said. "It doesn't work that way."

Some Cubs were upset trainer Mark O'Neal has been dragged into the controversy. One even referred to Ohman as "our former left-hander."

The three homerun game for Fox was the first for an I-Cub since Jason Dubois on April 4, 2004 at Albuquerque. Will Ohman reported to Iowa Saturday and is expected to pitch Monday or Tuesday.

Sounds like a serious injury if he's pitching Monday or Tuesday.

I would hate it as a major leaguer to be sent to the minors. You leave a life of luxury, traveling the country playing Major League Baseball to playing with a bunch of kids, riding a bus to get to Who-knows-where Iowa, etc.
