It helps you to realize how prevalent steroids are, and how easily these guys are willing to take things, even by injecting. I always would figure steroids would be hard to take because of needles, but apparently not. And yes, I know the Cream and the Clear were not injectables.

Exactly. Steroids where so prevelant back in 03/04, and also for many years before. I wouldn't be surprised if 50%+ players where using them in some capacity. Look at some of the records. I think Eric Gagne's record/year definetely looks a little suspicious. You read Game of Shawdows and that sports illustrated article detailing the grand jury leaked testimony... and you find out it was really prevelant. No rules against it, and all sorts of guys would take them.

Mediocre to good players. Good to great, and great to outstanding. 74 Home runs for Barry... gimmie a break. Even guys trying to make it to the majors. They'd see the guys doing them. They'd want to make it. They'd do whatever it took. I think baseball has covered up alot and should be thankful they haven't been completely exposed, because they definetely had a problem.

You're right, but I still say, where there's smoke, there's fire.

I wonder how many people were really that shocked and surprised about Glaus. I wasn't shocked, but expressed minor surprise just because he's one of our guys. Still, if you asked me about potential steroid-user Jays a few months ago, Glaus would still probably be at the top of the list.

Why would a MLB player have steroids be sent to his house? Could not he get a friend to order for him?

Regardless...steroid issue is just for media something to do and money to make.

No, this steroid issue is huge. The thing about Game of Shadows and the BALCO stuff is it's really only about a handful of players. Bonds, Giambi, and then Benito Santiago is the third most known player on the list. And of course, there's Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery.

But, it makes you realize there must be a whole other slew of players who were getting their stuff from other sources. And go back to when there was no testing.....anyone could take anything. And even now, anyone can take human growth hormone because there's no test for it.

Glaus lead the AL in homeruns in 2000, and has made big money since, including his World Series MVP. How are we to know who this guy is today? Is he off the drugs and just average now? Is he still on drugs to be as good as he is?

WHat if we found out David Ortiz had ties to drugs? When will someone get dirt on Clemens? Everything could be a sham!! This story is getting bigger.

Back in steroid era everyone was doing it. At least a majority was. In one way or another.

Steroids saved baseball and were not against baseball rules at the time. So I really don't care who took them and who did not when i watch the game. I dont sit there and wonder if the guy took steroids or not, just enjoying the game.

For me personally, I really don't care whether or not steroids where illegal in baseball, I KNOW they are performance enhancing, and by using them, you are cheating. I agree that this story is just getting bigger and bigger.

I think steroid use in baseball may have been so prevelant, that it "enhanced" so many players, that it may have actually evened out... if that makes any sense. It also points to the powers that be in MLB, turning a blind eye all in the name of profit. Which seems to be happening alot lately, eh Vince Mcmahon?

As Jay Gibbons surfaces in the steroid investigation...

This is just the beginning. Names are finally starting to come out in the investigation. Hopefully they'll find more distribution companies and more clients so they can uncover that steroid use was pretty common a few years ago. Huge salaries, huge expectations, alot of guys did whatever it took. Soon it will be proven that MLB knew of this, and turned a blind eye.

I don't really know what's worse. The fact that MLB does turn a blind eye, or that the guys themselves, will do whatever it takes, including risk there life. I guess in the end, it comes down to millions of dollars.

Gibbons was an obvious candidate IMO

I know that the only way to clean up the game is to start naming names and outing everyone, but this is going to get really frustrating. I don't want the next 5 years of Sportscenter to simply be about outing the latest drug user.... I want to move on.

And at the end of the day, what are we going to do? Do we just ignore everyone who played in that era when it comes to the hall of fame? Does the "Evil" Barry Bonds and Mark McGwires of the world get kept out while we induct Roger Clemens or Eric Gagne? Personally I'm of the opinion that roids use was so rampant that the playing field was still level. And what about the guys that have already been inducted? If their name shows up do we remove them from the hall?

If MLB attacked this problem before it got too big, then we could ignore these guys on the HOF ballot, but with estimates as high as 70% of the players using something- we either honour them, or don't induct someone for 20 years.

Just Mike Wilner on The Grill Room, on SunTV. He threw out a couple of more names. apparently from Jason Grimsley's list.

BJ Ryan (!!) and Brian Roberts (Orioles).
