It sucks he wasn't there. Now, he took an innocent life for literally no reason. She would still be alive if he was in that car.

I know that sounds harsh but driving that fast while your wasted means you should not be a member of society going forward if you kill someone. That's a disqualifying event in my book

I can’t find the video now but I saw a video this morning where the prosecutor is saying Ruggs could get anywhere from 2-46 years in prison. That’s before adding the gun charge for the loaded weapon he had in his car.

In Nevada, it a class B felony to drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and thereby cause someone to suffer substantial bodily injury or death. Penalties include two to twenty years in prison, fines ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, and a three-year driver’s license suspension.

If I had to guess Ruggs will probably be on the low end of that 2-20 because he is young and as far as I know he is not a repeat offender.

We already saw Stallworth go through this and only had 30 days in prison (which IMO is absurd) but there is a pretty big difference in that Ruggs was going insane speeds and had a higher blood alcohol %. Stallworth was only going 50 mph and struck a pedestrian trying to cross the street.

Still I'd be surprised if Ruggs got over 10 years.

The one positive thing (not that it makes up for anything) is that Ruggs actually has the money to be awarded to the victims family. So the family should be able to obtain some millions of dollars in a settlement.
