How much does he lower the cap number though?

They got Davante Adams' situation and then the Smiths as well.

I don't think that helps the overall roster that much.

Rodgers gets another guaranteed $150 million on top of the hundreds of millions he's already made and Adams has to take the tag?

That sucks, about as bad as when Favre bullied and shamed a young WR to end his holdout before he gets a big contract and the guy blows out his ACL. It was Javon Carter or Javon something, don't know if he ever made big money but he was a big playmaker before his injury.

Rodgers is stuck on 1 SB ring, won during his rookie deal. A big reason is, he kept taking big chunks or the salary cap and other players move on.

It doesn't.

But would you rather have an MVP or Jordan Love as the starter? This keeps Green Bay relevant. They may not win another Super Bowl. But they'll remain in the mix as long as Rodgers is still playing.

Jordan Love doesn't appear to be the answer. It's an easy decision for them.

They got the Rodgers rate.
BaF Lakers:

Nikola Topic/Kasparas Jakucionis
VJ Edgecombe/Jrue Holiday
Shaedon Sharpe/Cedric Coward
Kyle Filipowski/Collin Murray-Boyles
Alex Sarr/Clint Capela

Bench: Malcolm Brogdon/Hansen Yang/Rocco Zikarsky/RJ Luis Jr.

If relevant but still not a contender, that's known as a treadmill.

Since the NFC North is weak right now, they could have a gaudy regular season record and HFA.

But HFA isn't what it used to be when other cold weather teams used to dominate the playoffs.

Yeah Jordan Love hasn't shown anything. OTOH, with the state of the NFC North, this is the time to develop a QB.

But it will be interesting to see their other moves. Maybe they can contend, with Tampa Bay rebuilding, Dallas having to clear cap space and the Rams, maybe on top for another year or two before they are going to have to reboot.

I don't know though, AFC may start dominating for a few years at least. I don't know that the Rams would have beaten Buffalo or KC.

Stupid move. Why would you reward a quarterback who got tossed in the first playoff game (at home btw) with that monster contract?

Seriously...I'm a Packer fan, and can anyone name the time (in the last 10 years) where this guy grabbed the team by the bootstraps, and carried them to a victory, when they were supposed to lose? In the playoffs of course. Don't care about regular season. This guy never gets it done. Where's his "Brady moment" when he comes back from 23 down late in a game? (again...playoffs)

Shoulda moved on. This team woulda been better for it. Now I guess we look forward to 4 great regular seasons. Followed by a lackluster dump from the playoffs. Maybe I'm the only one....but about 5-6 years ago, the regular season stuff stopped giving me excitement. All I could ever focus on was the waterfall in Jan we were about to plunge down.

Good luck handing the rest of the team peanuts. That'll go well.

Update on Rodgers' contract, per Tom Pelissero -

Guaranteed:
2022 - $42m
2023 - $59.515m

Not fully guaranteed:
2024 - $49.3m

Conclusion:
The MVP is doing okay financially.

Everything is practice.

They will have to restructure every year, I heard, to keep the cap manageable.

They are also counting on a big cap increase as the new TV deal kicks in.

We will see if these teams with big-salary QBs can win championships.

Packers release Zadarius Smith, extended Preston Smith with a cap friendly contract.

Now, will Adams be happy playing under a tag? Probably not but he has no choice. He just saw some of his teammates get long-term deals but not him. BTW, how does he reach the age of 30 and this would be his first time getting tagged? Was he a real old rookie or something?

They'll win their division easily but not clear they're better-prepared for the playoffs. OTOH, besides the Rams and Bucs, all the other NFC teams have questions over them.

Dallas had to trade Cooper away, may lose some other starters.

Bucs, Brady is coming back but they had to clear cap space and may lose some starters before it's all said and done.

49ers, very unsettled QB situation and they lost a starting DT and LG in free agency so far.
