Did the Eagles have **** owners prior to Lurie?

Cheap owners to be exact and until the 90s before unrestricted free agency, the best teams had owners who were willing to pay to keep the team together.

I don't really like to give owners credit because literally all they have to do is not be cheap or meddlesome. But it's so rare that they aren't either.

Probably what's worst about the new owners buying an NFL team right now is that they are obscenely rich and everyone of them thinks what made them so translates to the NFL but it doesn't.

If Josh Harris turns out different it's almost entirely due to Jayden Daniels.

Sure, some of it involves sheer luck. But the best owners hire the best Football people to come in & run the show. They also don't meddle, or try to make everything into a reality show (Jerry).

That basically was Paul Allen.

57 years and I wasn't even alive for most of these years. Definitely better than waiting 29+ years for another championship WHILE ALIVE and fully experiencing every losing season.

True.lol it’s what I always say, I see cowboy fans and their kids saying they got 5 super bowls and we still only got two blah blah blah but truth is those kids never saw them win.lol

My kids are 8, 4, and 2 years old and they were all alive for the last eagles Super Bowl. Hell, my 8 year old was alive for both of them.

I’d much rather say I waited 27 years of my life to see a Super Bowl than to say “we have 5 that they won before I was even born”.

The Hawks had a bad owner prior to Paul Allen buying the team in the late 90's.

Yeah I think it all starts at the top making sure everything is running smoothly. The guy in the eagles organization that has by far the most power is howie roseman and Lurie has even had times of flirting with firing him too. But, like sirianni, howie was willing to adapt so Lurie kept him and gave him more power.

I really would like to know who in the Eagles organization advocated for the idea of investing in the backup QB like they did. Both Foles (most expensive backup QB signing in 2017 after Wentz had a promising rookie season) and Hurts (2nd round pick while Wentz had just signed an extension) are the reasons the Eagles have SBs.

I would like to say howie but honestly I don’t know if that’s true or not

He would’ve fired nick sirianni too but sirianni agreed to go in a different direction, a direction that was better for the team.

Well, Lurie has to be considered one of the better owners. One of the key things is knowing when a change is necessary. Paul Allen was also very pro-active as an owner. He would always try to hire the best coaches & staff (Holmgren & Carroll). But unfortunately he died of cancer in 2018. But if he was still around I don't think Carroll would've lasted as long as he did. His Sister who runs the team now doesn't seem to have that same urgency to win. She's basically acting as a caretaker (Paul's trust) until the team is eventually sold.

I remember the Seahawks were a well respected organization top to bottom in maybe the late 2000s to early 2010s. Seems like they always made good moves with coaches and players. For a very long time I was jealous of the Russell Wilson pick and howie roseman has very publicly made it known that was a selection he wishes he made too. I think it’s also part of the reason he didn’t want to pass on Jalen hurts.

Yeah, it was because of Paul. His very first hire was Mike Holmgren ('99). He then hired Carroll in 2010. Everything was first class under his ownership & still is to some degree.

He died in October of 2018 & since that point the team has kind of been middling. His Sister (Jody) is in charge of his Trust. Which includes both the Seahawks & Blazers. Both teams will have to be sold at some point in the future as part of the arrangement. The Blazers we're just recently put on the market.

They Eagles won a SB in the 2024 season after winning one in the 2017 season. So that is a waiting time of 7 years.

You’re better then this.

Euro soccer is even more pay-to-win than MLB.

VARdrid and Barca are broke, so the PSG and Manchester City sheiks got the deepest pockets.

Eagles, Dodgers...who am I missing? You don't have any team logo's displayed.

I'm just glad and fortunate I grew up in a time when everything was new, fun and exciting. 70's was a great time.

How many years was it before 2017?
You can use a calculator if you want cause it’s a big number.

That’s an entirely different question, and now you seem to be trying to backtrack for him, but even that isn’t close to 100 years. I don’t need a calculator to know that, but apparently some do.

If you took the 100 years literally and think there has been backtracking I don’t know what to tell you.
After reading some of your posts it’s easy to see you are the one that’s hurt. lol
Only eagle fans can come out of a 57 year drought and make fun of a 29 year drought. lol
The cowboys just passed the eagles halfway point for crying out loud.

Oh my bad, so the Eagles drought was only twice at long as the Cowboys current drought. Well I mean it would have been but you guys say those Championships don’t count.

My bad so only 2 Championships count for the Eagles. Cool now you can stop crying that the championships in the 40’s and 60’s don’t count.

No, these still count, but you asked how long Eagles fans had to wait for another championship: 7 years from the last one.

Yea you waited like 60 years.

All of the teams that I like are Los Angeles based because that’s where I was born and raised, but when I was a kid there were no football teams in LA so I was kinda just more of a fan of the sport vs fan of any team in particular. Those early 2000s though the eagles had a lot of fun teams and I found myself watching them more and more so I just adopted them as a team and never looked back.

I’ve been a huge NFL fan for nearly 30 years now. I keep hearing all this talk that the cowboys are the best and the eagles suck blah blah blah but all I know is when I’ve been watching, the giants have 2 super bowls and the eagles have 2 super bowls. We can talk about ancient history before I was born though
