It’s gonna be very different this year, not just because of the new defensive coordinator but also because there will be maybe 5-6 new starters on that side of the ball. The offense will always score points but the defense will decide how far the eagles go in my opinion.
I know they brought in Fangio, but I'm not a huge fan of the scheme in general. I think the league has figured him out for the most part.
The Eagles are still very strong upfront on both sides of the ball. So, they'll stay competitive. Howie always has done a good job in that aspect of team building.
I’m not a huge fan of the scheme either to be honest, but I think a lot of defenses are adopting some variation of the scheme to counter todays high powered passing offenses. I just figure if a team wants to run some variation of the scheme they might as well get the guy that created the defense to run it (fangio).
Sure, it has become widely used. But teams have caught on for the most part & the league will eventually phase it out completely. It's a big reason for why none of his assistants have been very successful running it as of late.
The Baltimore/Michigan defensive scheme is the next thing to take over the league. It's going to spread like wildfire. Baltimore, Seattle, the Chargers. Teams like Tennessee & Miami are likely running a variation of it as well. But unlike Fangio's simplified version, this one is much more difficult to figure out.
