I like this I see no down sides. Smith is underrated.

We need to beef up the oline more & maybe sign Lockett?

And hit in every pick in the draft we can give Smith an extension & still have cap space left.

This is a good move for the Raiders in the short-term. Geno is a mid-tier QB. Which is better than what they've had for a while. Yes, he's better than Carr.

I could see Lockett sign with them too. He's more of a 3rd receiver nowadays & doesn't have much juice leftover. But he's still a great guy to have in the locker room. Plus, he's one of Pete's guys.

Smart move to move on if he wanted that much. Hell 35 a year for him is twice as much than what he should get paid.

Teams should never pay for middling QBs.

Measly third round pick for such a great quarterback? I'll be damned.

No great prospect or free agent this year, Seattle wants to toil around .500 forever.

At this rate the number 12s will become '12-24s because that's how long they've been fans.

If Seattle is in a full rebuild then this is smart. Starting their rebuild before the rams and tanking will pave the way for the future.
If this is a slight retool and they sign a guy like Darnold and win 7 to 10 games then the franchise will be set back 5 years.

This is a reset.

Moving off Geno & some of the older veterans who were Pete's guys. Building a roster that fits Mike Macdonald's vision going forward. While also getting younger.

Geno is 35. So, extending him & committing a lot of money ($45m) to him long-term makes little sense. He was never anything more than just a bridge QB for them.

If they sign Darnold it will only be for the short-term as well (1-2 years). The team will have an out if they do sign him to a contract. He'll be a bridge until they can find the next guy (draft). Same deal with Cousins. They won't be committed to either guy long-term.

This roster needed a reset. Especially when they decided to move on from Carroll. You bring in guys who fit the scheme & overall vision of the new coach. This is pretty typical when you have a coaching change. It's very logical.

I don't mind it for the Raiders. He has a high floor and will win you minimum 7 games I think. Your QB situation has been the worst in the league for a few years now so it will be good to get a good QB in there and have some fun.

Draft Shadeur and see what happens in 2026

I don't really get Darnold if you're going for a reset. What's the point? Just sign Fields and go full tank this year.

They could be competitive but I don't see more than 7 wins with that roster. They need help all over the place. You could argue they have the worst skill position players in the entire league...

The Dolphins technically did a one year rebuild 5-6 years ago so anything is possible

Because ownership will never go for that. They're not trying to lose games. That's not how you build a winning culture.

Plus, Fields is not a good fit for the Kubiak/Shanahan offense. Whereas Darnold has played well in the scheme.

Darnold is comparable to Geno...they are in the same tier. I guess he's a fresh face but not sure why they would do that

It makes a lot of sense, actually.

1. Darnold has played in the offense. He's also been coached by Kubiak (OC).

2. Darnold would be a cheaper option for them. The rumor is that he's going to get less money than Geno.

3. He's younger than Geno.

Darnold can't win PO games though. He's a treadmill QB. That's why I'm questioning why gut the team and sign him so you can win 9 games this season. What is the point?

I would full tank and go for Arch

It’s not easy getting a good QB. Darnold will prevent them from getting a good draft pick.
Bridge QBs are fine when the future is on your roster.
Having a bridge QB and following him up with another bridge QB is terrible.

Lol guys, this isn't how teams operate. They want to win Football games & try to be competitive. It doesn't work like the NBA.

One bad season can get a coach & front office fired. You have to think logically.

Exactly why I thought Carroll was a terrible hire for them, to accommodate his old age Raiders will try to win extra few meaningless games and screw up their chance to a good quarterback and true rebuild.

Not that Mark Davis really cares about winning.
