Plus, Fields is not a good fit for the Kubiak/Shanahan offense. Whereas Darnold knows the system.

Darnold is comparable to Geno...they are in the same tier. I guess he's a fresh face but not sure why they would do that

It’s not easy getting a good QB. Darnold will prevent them from getting a good draft pick.
Bridge QBs are fine when the future is on your roster.
Having a bridge QB and following him up with another bridge QB is terrible.

In addition to lower pick Darnold reportedly will get at least 125 million dollar over 3 years, that will hamper their team building. If you're building a power running team smart play is building a stout offensive line and defense then plug in a qb on the rookie scale or a veteran. Bad planning either way.

One bad season can get a coach & front office fired. You have to think logically.

My apologies
I hope the fans enjoy the extra win(s) and hope the front office gets another year.

I get the sarcasm. But this how NFL front office's work. They know their job could be on the line if they tank & end up losing a lot of games. Coaches & GM's want to stay competitive. Because if they don't, they could be looking for jobs. I'm not trying to give my opinion on the matter. It's just reality. Teams aren't trying to tank for a higher draft pick. Regardless of what fans think.

Fair enough. It’s very logical.
It just sucks for the franchise.

Teams will tank for the right QB. If Arch or the kid from LSU looks generational teams will tank. You can turn your team around after one season pretty easily but signing Darnold is a guarantee to treadmill. JMO

If he's the long-term starter? Maybe, yeah. But again, the plan would be to bring him in on a short-term deal. A 1–2-year bridge. Which gives you time to find his replacement (draft) & also continue to build up the team. This is what good teams do.

I don't necessarily subscribe to the narrative that you need to tank to draft a QB. You can always move up in the draft to take one. The Chiefs had the 27th pick, the year they acquired Mahomes (trade). It can be done.

Your guy Hurts was a 2nd round pick himself. You don't need a high pick to find a QB. Also, the hit rate on first round QB's is just 40%. There's no guarantee a guy is going to work out. Because in most cases, they don't.

You named exceptions though.
First round QBs taken high in the first round is the best scenario.

2021: Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones

2022: Kenny Pickett

2023: Bryce Young, Anthony Ricardson

Names of first round (high) QB's who haven't exactly lit the world on fire. Even Trevor Lawrence has been somewhat of a disappointment for all the hype he got. It's not a great list of names.

Joe Burrow is the exception.

We can spend all day giving examples on each side.
Both strategies have a bad hit rate. But one is higher then the other.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44165070/sources-te-mike-gesicki-re-signing-bengals-3-year-deal

Bengals are re-signing Gesicki. He plays a similar role as Tee Higgins in the offense, to me, that signals probably no extension for Tee. Deadline is in July, so we'll see.

The point being that recent precedence is not favorable for teams wanting to "tank". Arch Manning is not the 2nd coming.

Tanking isn’t just about the first round pick. Your second rounder almost becomes a first.
You also get younger and your cap gets reset.
Getting a bridge QB over and over doesn’t have a favourable precedence.

Worthy arrested for DV.

What a coincidence, another Chief gets in legal trouble.

With the psychological profiling and interviews teams do, this can't be a complete surprise. Chiefs don't care, they probably think they get bargains, talents who slide because of personality or off-field concerns.

They've all been WRs, Hill, Rice and now Worthy. Hunt the RB also had DV arrest didn't he?

Remember when they got completely demolished by the Eagles in the most recent SB?

That was fun.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Seattle going with a full blown blow up on offense this offseason

I'm not totally shocked. I thought they might keep Geno around. But they hired Klint Kubiak. Who has coached both Darnold & Cousins. That's probably the next domino.

Mike Macdonald comes from the school of Harbaugh. Wants to copy the Ravens/Michigan model. Become a more physical defense/run first team. This is the first step.

Hey there is always room on the Vikings bandwagon. No judgement from me if you choose to hop on

you want someone to willingly get on the vikings bandwagon???
