His defenders don't point at stats, they point at his rings which are basically his only accolades.

IMO "rings" are a team stat, and no single individual should ever get credit for them. The closest thing to that would be "Super Bowl MVP" which is individual, and Eli does have 2 of those, so really he would be getting in on 2 games.

Jim Plunkett has 2 rings as well, that's why Eli defenders add his total passing yards. (11th all time)

Jim Plunkett should be in the HOF too and it’s a travesty that he isn’t.

People are saying Eli’s stats are the only claim he has to being a great QB?

Yeah, his pass yards combined with his rings.

I don’t know anyone that thinks Eli’s stats are the reason he should get in. For most of his career Eli was average during the regular season. The only really claim to a HOF career he has is winning the 2 SB’s. He had two clutch playoff runs and beat the goat QB and goat HC in both runs. Not to mention one of the SB was against an undefeated team. His team single handedly prevented an undefeated season from a goat team. That alone is enough to get him in the HOF.

His team did, he was a game manager at best in 2008.

If one good playoff run gets you into HOF then we have to consider Joe Flacco as well.

I don't like agreeing with you, but this is the correct take.

Eli Manning didn't win those rings, the New York Giants did.

Not sure where I said 1 good playoff run gets you in. Now if Flacco made it to the Super
Bowl twice and beat Tom Brady/Bill Belichick BOTH times then yes he absolutely would deserve to be in a HOF. He didn’t though so he’s not.

Just like Flacco Eli Manning also had only one good playoff run which was 2012. Maybe you are too young to remember but he was just there for the ride in 2008, he didnt do anything that a league average quarterback couldnt do.

Eli was MVP of both SB’s. That means he played great in the biggest game on the biggest stage and out duled the guy everyone considers the the goat QB, and did it twice! He’s everything you said, he’s mediocre for the most part, he has a big dumb dufus looking face and is a mouth breather. That guy beat Tom Brady twice in the Super Bowl. That guy deserves to be in the HOF. He made a mark and deserves to be recognized even if I personally cannot stand the guy.

Look you and I just see things differently. I don’t think either of us are going to change the others mind. For me the HOF is about a lot of things not just stats. Stats can be part of it just not all of it. Did the player do something memorable in their career?

Truth is Eli wasn’t really a SuperBowl mvp.
It was really the defense that stopped Brady that won the game. Manning had 3 TDS an Int and two fumbles combined in the two games.
The voters had no idea who to give it to so they panicked and gave it to the winning QB who happened to be Manning.
That first patriot team had one of the best offenses of all time. Holding it to 14 points was amazing. That’s what won the game.
The second SB Hicks had 10 catches for over 100 yards. He should have won it.
Claiming that Manning deserves to be in based on his SB mvps is very faulty argument IMO.
