This move pretty much confirms the idea that they planned on keeping McCarthy & the staff intact. But only on their own terms ($$). Jerry likely wanted to give McCarthy a one or two-year extension, but Mike walked away instead.

Hiring Schotty means you want to keep some form of continuity.

Yea for continuity! Image

If Dak stayed healthy this was probably a 9- or 10-win team. No?

Either way, it's still a decent roster. You just need to convince Jerry or Stephen to spend a little money in free agency to fill out the roster.

They won’t and the team cap expert will use a lack of cap space (a mess he is directly responsible for) as an excuse for not doing so.

That death grip he has on Jerry’s wallet is something fierce.

Man…rough hire. I’d rather have Pete Carroll. This is like hiring Alvin Gentry

I’m willing to be surprised.

Very, very willing.

Dammit...

This feels like the last few years of Al Davis running the Raiders. The Hue Jackson/Brad Gradkowski Raiders. Jerry has gone even more completely wheels off.

I can't take this anymore. I think I'm gonna become an Eagles fan.

Well, at least with Schotty, he would call plays. If they hire a decent DC, then it could work. Dak is good enough for them to have a top 5 offense. He was not a terrible OC in Seattle with a competent QB.

Bringing in Carroll means you have to hit on both OC & DC hires. His reputation as of late, isn't the greatest in that regard.

And he didn’t even call plays in Dallas.

OK.

Or… did.

Even if it’s a small chance that this is true and it’s not Schotty I’ll take it!

He had Mark Sanchez (Jets) & a list of awful QB's with the Rams.

Favre's year with the Jets in 2008 is a good example of how he made a QB perform worse.

He got the best out of Russ. Hasn't been the same since.

Everyone is overreacting to his name.

Wilsons's best year was 2015 IMO.

I'm not overreacting to his name. His name is the only reason why his subpar resume is getting him HC interviews.

Schotty? They should've just kept Mccarthy. What's the difference

That might actually be what they’re setting up. I think there’s a chance Schotty is the OC under Pete Carroll or Kellen Moore. The HC is likely going to be one of these 3 guys.

Move the Sticks podcast, Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Books said that among the open jobs, Chicago was seen as more attractive than Jacksonville by some offensive-oriented candidates because they think Caleb would be easier to fix than Trevor.

They think the years of losing losing may have hurt Trevor's confidence and whoever gets the Jags job will will to convince Lawrence that he believes in Trevor and would have to rebuild his game almost from scratch.

Very interesting, both Trevor and Caleb touted as generational \QB prospects in their draft classes.

They said Brian Johnson said the right things at the press conference, that they were going to craft an offense around him rather than bring the playbook from Detroit. Sure whatever, we will see if the Lions recognize the concepts or the actual plays as well as the terminology when these teams play.

But they suggested that Johnson could poach one of the Lions guards who may be hitting free agency, to help the Bears OL up the middle. Johnson may likely lean towards Dennis Allen as the DC in Chicago.
