Mike Macdonald, Mike McDaniel, Mike McCarthy

Re: Coaches
Surprised both Slowik and Ben Johnson staying, I guess Slowik wasnt ready but everyone expected Ben Johnson would definitely get one of the jobs--particularly Commies. Especially after he called a great game against Niners.
Maybe there is some agreement he would be the head coach for Lions soon, they get rid knee capper and put the real star of the show in charge.

Ben Johnson might have missed his chance to be a HC by turning down the Commies. The Lions will have a much harder schedule next year and there’s no guarantee they will be as good next season as they were this season.

Rejecting an opportunity is always a risk, look at where is Byron Leftwich?
But Ben Johnson does call a creative game regardless of his quarterback or head coach, I think he is for real.

Re: Coaches
I'm glad both Slowik(even though sometimes he gets overly conservative which is annoying) and Johnson are coming back - it's good to have continuity and I expect them to really open up the playbook for CJ next year which could be exciting if everyone is healthy.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

I think it was reported Ben Johnson wanted the chargers job only. I think based on that he’d take the bills, eagles, bengals, packers yada yada. Teams with established QBs.
I think coaches are becoming a tad more leery of taking jobs with struggling organizations that have high draft picks and are expecting a QB
The truth is so much of a coach is tied to their QB that Ben Johnson probably saw Sam Howell or drake maye and thought to himself too much of a risk.
Sure not taking a head coach job is a risk itself but you do typically get only one shot at being a head coach. You’d probably rather it be as good a situation as possible. If your offense isn’t as good the next year it doesn’t really matter. Kellen Moore for example will likely get another opportunity down the line.

Look at Kellen Moore too. The year before Dallas got rid of him as their OC he was one of hot names. He went on 2 HC interviews I believe but turned them down. Now he’s with his 3rd team as an OC and not getting any HC interviews. I read that Washington was preparing to offer Ben Johnson $10M a year for 5 years. That would have been life changing money for him and his family.

There is also a story that he wanted like $15 million a year. That's Ben Johnson.
How many times has Josh McDaniels been hired as HC?

I'm not too worried about that. He's considered a defensive wiz. Some are even calling him "the Sean Mcvay of defense". The Baltimore defense wasn't very good before he got there. They we're 28th in DVOA in 2021. In his two seasons as DC, the Ravens ranked 8th by DVOA in 2022 and 1st in 2023. He also did great things at Michigan as well.
Short of hiring Jim Harbaugh himself, this was the next best hire in my eyes.
Ben Johnson would have also been a solid hire. But he's a good, not great OC imo. As he often would struggle to make adjustments. We saw that play out this past weekend.
But the most impressive thing about Macdonald, is that he absolutely dominated his competition. Johnson, Slowik, even Kyle Shanahan. He ran circles around them.
The guy is clearly ready to run the show.

Queen was considered a bust at one point. They brought in Roquan. Kyle Hamilton is kind of the Swiss army knife of that defense. But they we're trending downwards before he got there. The argument is that the scheme is what made them great as a unit. They led the league in Simulated Pressures. Alot of disguising of coverages & his defense is very unpredictable from play to play.

Re: Coaches
The commanders hiring Dan Quinn just proves nothings really changed
This reminds me eerily of when the Texans hired lovie smith because they weren’t an attractive destination and wanted to wait for the right candidate and more pieces
Problem is though the commanders have the picks, they have the new ownership they have a clean slate, now was the time
They desperately needed to bring someone in that was going to do something different. There’s gotta be someone out there after 8-10 interviews that’s the right guy.

He is such a retread. It's a great way to guarantee you will go .500 the next 3-4 seasons. He should be out of the league given the collapse in the PO's.
