Andre Johnson has five years remaining on a $60 million contract he signed with the Texans in 2007. The star receiver feels that he's already outplayed that contract, however, and was missing from the start of Houston's voluntary organized team activities on Monday.

Johnson, who led the NFL in receiving yards last season (1,569 yards), is scheduled to make $5.8 million this season, according to the Houston Chronicle.

They also bring up in the article how Fitz and Brandon Marshall are making more than he is this season. He is normally soft-spoken, never one to be unhappy, but is he turning into another prima donna receiver?

Does he deserve a restructured deal?

Well AJ deserves something big w/o him the Texans wouldnt be anything

but does he really have any leverage? he still has 5 years left on the extension! to me it seems as if the texans have more leverage in this one. while he may deserve a new contract it is kind of diva-ish to demand a new contract after just recently signing one... that is just my opinion.

Tell him he can't get paid like a top wideout until he decides to crack 10 touchdowns.

if the texans believe him to be a top tier wide receiver, then he should be paid as a top tier receiver.

He is the best receiver in the game. He should be payed as such.

It's not the team's fault he agreed to such a long deal two years ago. That deal made him the highest-paid WR in the league at that point. Would he give money back if he had a mediocre season?

All these players that want to be the highest paid at their positions are damned fools if they sign deals longer than 2 years unless they are ready and willing to accept the fact they won't hold that status any longer than that. There can only be one and it changes almost every offseason at almost every position.

Some other factors at play:
--a lot of these types of demands are agent-generated. There is a lot of jockeying for status as having the most guys being the highest-paid. It's an agent trophy and they absolutely care about meaningless crap like that and flaunt it as a recruiting tool.

--it's not true of every franchise but it is of most: when one star player keeps going to the bank like Johnson is attempting here, every other notable player tries to follow. If they pay Johnson, you can bet Schaub will demand a new deal, Ryans, Williams, Cushing, etc. Better to have one disgruntled player than a whole huddle full of them, which is why I don't see Johnson getting anything other than maybe some more later $$ guaranteed--which is the normal outcome of these things.

Yep! When the Giants signed Tuck to a new deal, Osi got mad (despite the fact that Osi had got a new deal the year before).
