true story. actual fact.

IRVING, Texas -- If you build it, they will come -- wearing winter coats.

The New Meadowlands Stadium, the $1.6 billion jewel co-owned by the New York Giants and Jets, will host the 2014 Super Bowl, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday afternoon at the league's spring meeting.

The league's 32 owners, undaunted by the prospect of a wintry championship game, awarded Super Bowl XLVIII to the New York/New Jersey region after also considering bids from Tampa and South Florida, both traditional sites. South Florida and Tampa have hosted the Super Bowl 10 and four times, respectively.

fyi- I will rent out the floor of my apartment to any of you that want to go to the Superbowl. I lived in dc & did it at Obama's inauguration & made 5 thousand. My place in manhattan is much smaller but I'm going to make baaaaaank off of this.

what a boatload of crap!

what happened to an even playingfield for the players. with wet snowy conditions, luck, slipping and falling everywhere play big factors.

the game and the players are an afterthought. the suits won.

You are a walking contradiction.

If you're a real football player, you won't give a rat's ass about where you play a Super Bowl. You know why? Because it's the f*cking Super Bowl. Why not make the biggest game on Earth just that much more interesting by allowing that wild card to be thrown in? It's rained during SB's before and before the merger, guys were playing championship games in below-zero weather.

Every team eventually has to make their way outside, whether or not they play in scorching 100 degree heat, below-zero snow or rain is what will condition a team.

I think having the SB in a place where conditions could possibly be extreme is a great idea. Nothing like playing the championship game in the elements. Should make the 2014 SB very interesting if there is a snowstorm or a torrential downpour.

"Santonio Holmes thinks the Super Bowl should only be played in warm weather cities.
"I like a Super Bowl where the elements don't have any factor in the game"
heres a superbowl championship "real" football player for ya, are you still drinkin the kool-aid given to us by the suits?

"There are no trends when you have a secret ballot," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said.

hmmm, what does that mean? allow the SHOW to spell it out for you mindless followers.

The secret ballot was an attempt to halt a trend of denver .. . DC . . . greenbay . . . or whatever cold ass town from placing their bids for becoming a future superbowl site.

hmmm, why? Figure it out. Hopefully it will bring you to wisdom, enlightenment, and not a follower of the suits.

If weather conditions can potentially decide nfc/afc title games then who gives a flying F\_/CK about weather conditions for the Superbowl?

I think a lot of people go to the Super Bowl to take a vacation. I've never really thought lets take a vacation to NYC in the middle of winter.

I think the game could be fun to watch and it does add an element. But not sure how people who go to the game will like sitting there. The halftime act could be funny while they are in a parka as well.

I do because the nfc/afc title games are played at the location of the team that earned home field advantage. The Super Bowl is ideally played at a neutral site where neither team is supposed to have an advantage. Playing a game in a blizzard will give one of the teams an advantage (think SF vs. Denver). In my mind that unnecessarily taints the Super Bowl.

Besides, I've yet to hear an answer to what happens if a nor'easter hits the day of the game. I can just see 2 feet of snow and 40 mph winds paralyzing the city and everyone asking who on earth thought this was a good idea when it's 75 degrees and sunny down in Miami. Lets see...it's Feb. 2nd I could either be shoveling out in NJ or sitting on Miami Beach. Tough call there. Funny thing is ESPN already had a poll and the majority want to see a blizzard. They are praying to tune in and see a train wreck. That will take the spot light off the players and the better team and put it on constant weather updates. What true NFL fans wants to see weather be the determining factor of crowning a champion? In 20 years it will be like the Ice Bowl. Nobody will remember the score, who had the great game or how the game played out. When remembering the game all they'll recall is that it was damn cold that day. The game will become famous for weather over the actual game.

I like how "real football players" wouldn't mind the conditions, but you're talking about a situation where teams like NE play and practice during the summer and warm weather, and then later practice in nasty cold, and the south teams always have warm and temperate weather.

I don't like having rain or snow, and which team is better at running the ball or playing defense getting a distinct advantage, just like overtime is stupid because not all teams are built to stop the other team from scoring on it's first drive.

Either way, I don't think it's even going to be an issue at all, but I just can't stand the argument that having poor weather won't help some teams out immensely.

There won't be a nor'easter. I am willing to put money on it.

February is technically the tail end of winter. January is much worse than Feb in the tri-state area.

Ten bucks says the halftime show will be broadcast live from somewhere in Time Square.

Eli Manning, another superbowl champion, a real football player, likes the idea. As do fellow superbowl champions Justin Tuck, Brandon Jacobs & USC's own Steve Smith.

07 NFC Championship game. It's BELOW ZERO & Eli throws for over 200 yards. Plaxico has over 110 yards receiving. People remember that game for the amazing performances IN the weather, not just the weather.

No kickoff for a Giants or Jets game has ever been postponed or even delayed because of weather.

I didn't realize throwing for 200 yards is a big deal. What I remember is the cold freezing old man Favre and him looking like the field was the last place he wanted to be. After the game he said he couldn't take it anymore and that is when he forced his way out of GB.

Either way we’re not just talking cold...we’re talking cold, wind and snow. That will help one team over another and I think it makes sense to try and keep the weather out of it. Besides, ask 100 people if on Feb 2nd they'd rather be in Miami or NJ and I'd have to think 95% say Miami.

It's a risk / reward thing. What is the reward of playing in NJ on Feb 2nd? None that I can think of. The game is sold out either way and it doesn't change how many will watch from home. Now what is the risk? A major storm shutting down the entire event. To me it is all risk with little to no reward. It's the same reason I don't schedule a Caribbean cruise during hurricane season. I mean why take the risk of messing up a major vacation?

It proves that QBs can still be effective in extreme temperatures. The way some people act its as if the Superbowl would only include 10 passing plays.

What I remember is the cold freezing old man Favre and him looking like the field was the last place he wanted to be. After the game he said he couldn't take it anymore and that is when he forced his way out of GB.

Please. Favre was forced out of Green Bay. It is revisionist history to say that the nfc championship game is why Favre left Green Bay. It's common knowledge the Packers wanted an answer quickly. Brett was rushed & he retired. He unretired & declared his desire to play for GB but GB wasn't having it. Get real.

There was big time wind chill in the nfc title game. Why everyone is assuming there will be snow when history tells you otherwise is beyond me. Perception is reality, I guess.

Besides, ask 100 people if on Feb 2nd they'd rather be in Miami or NJ and I'd have to think 95% say Miami.

Why did Miami finish behind Tampa in the vote? Ask people if they'd rather be in NYC or Tampa then I think your odds change. Tampa probably wins out but it ain't 95%. Tampa is boring as hell.

It's a risk / reward thing. What is the reward of playing in NJ on Feb 2nd? None that I can think of. The game is sold out either way and it doesn't change how many will watch from home. There is no precedent for a game, championship game or otherwise, being shut down due to weather in the history of the Giants & Jets organization. it's a "believe the hype about the weather" kind of thing. I will put money on there being no snow. Big money.

Wrong. You have no clue what the facts are.

I live 60 minutes from GB and am a season ticket holder. I read both sides of the drama every day in our local paper. They told Favre to take his time and he decided to retire. This fact was quoted in the paper. He then changed his mind and said he wanted to come back. They chartered a plane to go down and sign him. He called at the last minute and again changed his mind and said he was retired and they shouldn't come. This again was quoted in the paper. Then a week later he called again to say he wanted to play. The guy changed his mind like 4 times in two weeks and that is why he's on that commercial not being able to make up his mind about a TV.

At that point the Packers were fed up. After all, he'd been pulling this crap for almost 5 years now. They said you can come but will need win the starting spot. Favre said no and demanded a trade to the Vikings. The same team that was accused to tampering to get Favre the year before. Everyone that knows anything knew his plan was to get to the Vikings so he could play in a dome with his buddies the past coaches that let him do whatever he wanted.

Before he burned the bridges, I dare you to find one place where GB said they no longer wanted Favre on the team. They even offered him 20 million to stay with the team and not play.

These are the facts and Favre has agreed to them. He just thinks his actions are justified because he is a star and should be able to jerk the team around all he wants. He also went on record saying he was mad at Thompson because he wouldn't hire the coaches and players he wanted. Most of the Packer fans in this state can't stand the guy and it sure wouldn't be that way if we thought the team shafted him.
