Bills Claim Shawne Merriman

The Buffalo Bills have claimed former San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman off waivers.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter first reported the claim. The Buccaneers and Dolphins also put in claims for Merriman, ESPN.com's John Clayton reported.

Merriman must report to the Bills within five days or he'll be placed on the Reserve/Left Squad list and would not be able to play the rest of the season, at which point his status would be determined by the next collective bargaining agreement. At the moment, Merriman plans to report to Buffalo, sources told Schefter. He is not, however, expected to play Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

Not a bad pickup for the Bills. Does anyone think he can return to form?

Not in that defense. He is a 3-4 OLB, I am not sure if he can play any other position.

My first thought is that Shawne Merriman is probably going to be miserable with Buffalo.

He hasn't reported yet and might not. I would advise him not to but to sit out the rest of the year, get fully healthy and pick his spot for next year on an incentive-laden deal.

IMO he's nothing without his juice and that's why he keeps getting hurt.

He did get like 12 sacks off the juice, but he might be too damaged now.
