Belichick played his starters this week. The only smart thing he did was not play Welker and not play Brady (The second half). I don't think the game meant anything for the Patriot's playoff picture either.

in football they are very regimented. very habitual. too much time off means rust. the patriots already have 2 weeks off, give 'em 3 and they wont fire on on cylinders the next game, or at least until the 2nd half. happens alot.
the only coach that I knew that was a master at that was bill walsh. pete carroll was on his staff, and we rarely lost a game when given plenty of time to prepare. bill walsh had a system that worked fantastic much of the time when playing in big games.
however, large amounts of time without anything to do is generally not good

Welker and Branch didn't play at all. All 4 RBs were used. Brian Hoyer randomly came in during the first half to throw him in a game situation to catch him off guard. He then spelled Brady for good after the first series in the 2nd half. Brady never wants to leave the game. If by "all their starters" you mean just Brady, then yeah.
