NFL Draft vs NBA Draft

Post#1 » by Pancho_Pantera » Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:28 am

How come in the NFL you can pick up a quality player anywhere in the draft but in the NBA you will be lucky to get a handful of players in a draft. The NFL has seven drafts while the NBA only has two.

There are 120 D1 schools which means there is a potential of 1440 kids to enter the NBA draft. On top of that, you have the Foreign Prospects along with the High School Kids. Obviously not everyone gets a shot at the draft but it still seems like a large selection, you are bound to land a good player. If you do your scouting, you should be able to get someone good in the draft. Sure there are more kids in football but it cancels out with the 7 rounds the NFL Draft has.

Because the NFL is a game of athleticism whereas the NBA is a game of skill and athleticism. I don't care if someone flames for this, but can you honestly tell me with a straight face that ANtonio Gates can pick up ice hockey and become an all pro or all star there like he did with football/the NFL?

Talent level is higher in the NBA. Also the players are more abnormal. With heights ranging over 7 feet, as opposed to the NFL where the players are shorter.

- Much, much more players in NFL.
- Many different positions/roles in NFL (offense, defense, special teams, kickers) as opposed to NBA.
- Star players matter/impact games much more in NBA than NFL.

Also the rosters are different sizes. 15 for the NBA vs 45 for the NFL.

I disagree. I think NFL players are more talented and more athletic.

Lebron made it to the finals with that cleveland team.

Bird would have won 4 rings with that team, in this weak ass era of basketball.

If there was a correct answer, this would pretty much be it. The NFL has 53 active players on each roster, including 24 starters.

In the NFL there are about 1700 active players.
In the NBA there are about 360 avcive players.

NFL players pretty much play 1 position, and just practice that nonstop. The NBA requires pure athleticism and the ability to do everything on the court. So with 24 positions to fill, there is a lot of talent to be brought in.

I think a lot also has to do with systems in the NFL. Look at Denver, with their RBs a few years back, popping off 1000 yard seasons. One guy can't impact a team/game AS MUCH as in the NBA, so it is easier to find guys to play roles late in the draft.

A Superstar in the NBA can play 40/48 minutes. A superstar in the NFL plays about 30/60 minutes.

there are so many more positions in the NFL.. there are a total of 26 different positions on offense and defense + special teams

this means that if you have the 45th pick (in the second round) you could still be picking the 2nd best projected player at a given position

alot of folks are fast, not alot of 'em are physical.

in the NBA, the toughest position and higher drafted are the big men. physical specimens who are powerful and mighty on the interior. those are "football" type guys. the run and gun teams of the past phoenix suns teams or even new york are not winning or close to winning. its those teams like the celtics are LAKERS with bigs who can dominate the interior. those "loosely like" are "footballl" type players.

there are plenty of guys who can run and dunk. but the game of football is fast, true, but it is also tough and physical. fast guys like reed or polamalu, while at the same time can absolutely KILL YOU with a crushing blow. some basketball guys are like ronaldo nehemiah guys in the NFL. fast, but no physicality or toughness. now there are plenty of fast dunking guys. but as the NFL and NBA knows, the physical interior guys are few and far between.
