Knowing Bill Belichek? I'd bet that line if it was 30. You know he's not letting up.

It's rare that you see an NFL line that high.

a 21 point spread is pretty bold. but i can't say im not expecting it in the game.

Oh I know, if we lose by less than 30 I would be genuinely suprised. They will be going for blood

Biggest spreads I can recall:
2004 final week, 13-2 Patriots against 2-13 49ers. That spread was 22.5, and the Niners covered by losing 21-7 in a game where the Pats fumbled several times and had a TD pass taken off because of penalties. The Niners deflated the ball and ran something like 40 times. IIRC this was the first game where Vrabel played TE and scored, could be wrong about that though.

The Lions played at the Colts late in their winless season, I want to say Week 14 or 15. That line started at 23 but wound up at like 21.5 because peopel got worried the Colts would pull the starters. It wound up being the best game the Lions played all year, Dan Orlovsky was great and Kevin Smith ran for almost 100 yards and a TD. I think the final was 31-20 Colts.

Beware the giant lines

You think that spread is big, look at the UCLA and Oregon Pac-10 championship game. It's something like 31 points :o

That's every weekend in College football.

Bosie States favored to win by 48.5
Texas Christian favored to win by 38.5

The year Hawaii made the BCS they were 54.5 point favorites over Utah State, biggest spread ever for a football game according to BoDog. They won 52-37 against the winless Aggies in a game that Colt Brennan left early with an injury. USU ran back a kick for a TD, ran back a punt 82 yards to set up a short TD, returned a fumble for a TD, and blocked a field goal and ran that back inside the Hawaii 20 that set up another TD.

That Hawaii team went undefeated in the regular season but only covered the spread twice all year, the Washington and Nevada games. Three times they missed covering by at least 20 points. They cost a lot of fanboys a lot of money. One of the national gambling sites (I forget which one, maybe allwagers?) had them rated the most overrated team in college football history a couple years ago, had a great story about how people flocked big-time $$ to them because they got so much attention and played no-name schools like San Jose and NMSU.

Back to the NFL...
No Vick again this week. I like Seattle to pound Philly.

Yeah, but for being a Pac-10 championship game, that's an insane point spread.

Not sure if the game you are talking about also had a 24 point spread, but I am positive that the Steelers were 24 point favorites against the Bucs in the 70s. The Bucs were an expansion team and the Steelers won the superbowl the year before. Final score - 42-0 Pittsburgh.
