Longtime Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo could retire this offseason based at least in part on how the season ends, multiple general managers and executives from other teams have told me at various times this season.

He's such a mixed bag. I suspect Bears fans are none too sorry to see him go, but I give Angelo unending credit for two things:

1. No GM is respected more by agents as someone fair to deal with. You never hear about offseason holdouts or messy negotiations.

2. He understands how to assemble a team with a distinctive identity. You might not like that identity or the results, but they can lop off half a draft board right away because they instantly know if a player fits or not. I've been in places that had no such identity and I can tell you its a clusterbleep of an ordeal sorting through prospects.

Matt Forte says hi.

....And Lance Briggs does, as well.

Briggs is an exception. And I side with Briggs.

Forte is not because no GM wants to pay any RB the money they think they deserve. And Forte getting hurt justifies why he didn't get paid but also why he demanded to get paid.

Great points.
