Troy Aikman bought it up in the Saints-Panthers game.

Honestly, i agree. Can the NFL do that though?

Rodgers should win it outright.

Better TD%
Better INT%
More YPA
Passer Rating record

Rodgers will win and easily deserves to. Brees had mediocore games against the Jags, Rams and Bucs, combined 2 TDs 7 INTs in those games and his team scored less than 23 each game. Rodgers was also a bit better in Wk 1

Brees had an amazing second half of the season but was too inconsistent the first 6 weeks to get MVP over Rodgers. 116-112 Rodgers IMO

I don't think anyone would have a legitimate case to complain if they did, but I'd give it to Rodgers. Even if his backup played better than he did all season. :D

Rodgers just had the best season of any quarterback ever and his team went 14-1 with him as a starter despite having one of the worst defenses in the league dragging him down.

Brees had an amazing season that wins MVP 80% of the time. The year Rodgers just had should win MVP every year ever, except for the year when Brady threw 50 TDs and went 16-0.

I hate the concept of co-MVP. Rodgers is still the MVP. The one loss costs McCarthy coach of the year, not Rodgers the MVP.

Just to answer the OP, the NFL has had co-MVPs before, Peyton and Air McNair (RIP) split it in 2003.

Anyway, I'm with the consensus, Rodgers really deserves it outright. What he did this season was just amazing. He carved up defenses all year long.

I'm not disagreeing with Rodgers being MVP, but the Packers defense was bad in terms of yardage, but they were first in turnovers, and those short fields are a big reason the Packers put up so many points.

And several of those turnovers came at the end of games or the end of halves which resulted in no points and no yards gained. The average starting field position between in the NFL is 9.31 yard (San Francisco is best starting their drives at around the 33, Indianapolis is worst averaging just short of the 24 yard line.) The difference between the 6th ranked Packers and 20th ranked Raiders is a little over 2.5 yards, so basically barely any difference at all. The difference between the Packers and Saints is 1.9 yards.

Saints are #1 in yards per drive (41.36), Packers are #2 (39.27)
Packers are #1 in points per drive (3.04), Saints are #2 (2.88)
Packers are #1 in TD's per drive (.370), Saints are #2 (.341)
Saints are #1 in punts per drive (.274), Packers are #3 (.331)
Packers are #1 in turnovers per drive (.058), Saints are #9 (.110)
Packers are #2 in interceptions per drive (.045), Saints are #16 (.079)

In addition to what I already mentioned before, Rodgers setting the all-time passer rating record, more YPA, higher TD%, lower INT% and it should be an easy decision.

Brees had an amazing year. Most fans think he deserves it because of what he's done the last half of the year but when you look at the year as a whole, Rodgers has been slightly better and deserves the MVP imo.

It sucks for brees because in his two best years, one other player has been slightly better than him. (09 Manning, 2011 Rodgers)

Rodgers deserves it and slightly edges out Brees but what a season for both these quarterbacks. unbelievable!!!

It's gotta be Rodgers. Nobody has been more consistent than he has. In every game he has played in, he has had at least 2 TD's and no more than one interception.

Brees can stay in the 4th quarter as long as he wants, Rodgers is still the MVP

By the way, what exactly did Manning do better in 2009, besides have his team win more games?

Brees broke the completion percentage, passing yards, (total yards for a team) and most completions this season.

That season, he had more TDs, less ints, more yards per attempt, 188 less yards in one less game), better completion percentage, etc.

What I'm saying is, Brees and Rodgers beat each other out in a few phases this year, and Brees actually set more records. Peyton didn't beat out Drew in anything.

Point is, Brees will never get an MVP in the media's eyes, so it's pointless to even debate at this point.

09 still pisses me off. Brees got completely jobbed to Manning because he lost 1 more game. Unbelievable.

I think the colts had a shot to go undefeated that year but management/coaching staff decided to let up after starting 14-0. Manning probably got the popular vote that year. Its close. I would have been cool with either Manning or Brees as the MVP in 09. Thinking back now, i think Brees probably should have won it.

I don't think we should limit it to these two. A lot of guys out there tried really hard. In fact, they are all playing at the highest level. Let's give all NFL players a share of the MVP award. Then everyone is happy.
