Trading Tim Tebow

Post#1 » by JustAwesome » Sun Mar 11, 2012 3:55 pm

It's purely speculation right now, but there are talks that the Jacksonville Jaguars could try to trade for local product Tim Tebow if the Denver Broncos sign Peyton Manning to be their new quarterback.

What do you think?

PR wise, it would be a great move for Jacksonville. They really need a reason for that stadium to sell seats.

Talent wise, I don't think that he's the answer.

I think that Elway & Denver have found a way to get rid of Tebow without too much backlash from their fans. If anything, they'll draft another young QB to be Peyton's understudy before they hang on to Tebow.

This Peyton Manning situation is a gift to Elway. I believe that a QB like Peyton is the only replacement that would allow Elway his wish of cutting ties with Tebow. Denver was stuck between a rock & a hard place regarding Tebow. It was obvious from reports that they don't feel Tebow is a starting caliber QB, but they couldn't get rid of him because of his popularity.

I look for Denver to go all out to sign Peyton because it kills two birds with one stone for them. They get a Hall of Fame QB & they push Tebow out the door with minimal backlash.

It would be a great PR move, but watching Gabbert and Tebow compete for playing time would just be painful.

No way. One mistake from Manning and the thousands of Tebow fans would be screaming for him to be back in immediately. Denver is probably tired of dealing with that.

That's an interesting angle, that Peyton gives them an out on Tebow. Hadn't really looked at it that way.

I think Biggie is onto something. This would be a really nice move for DEN. Taking the smart and not sentimental choice with Tebow and surviving it PR wise

Yeah free shield to block from getting egg on the face. No other team can get that type of free extra value so that might give them better bang for their buck.

Another interesting thing to consider is why the TEN owner is all of a sudden coming out with such bold statements a little late. I wonder if some TEN alumni that has a 100 million bucks and nothing better to spend his money on just told him that if he brings him back that he will subsidize the cost. Just trying to think of the hidden agenda and outside of the box angles that could be at play. Don't count TEN out just yet!

Still don't get why they can't just keep Tebow and let him learn from Manning...

Manning's skill set is completely different, what he can offer as insight that relates to what he does well won't help out Tebow. Tebow doesn't win with prototypical QB skills, he wins with gumption and x-factor. Any QB in the league that has more experience than Tebow could probably mentor him better than Peyton could.

What you are suggesting is like Albert Einstein being a mentor to Chris Angel. If I wanted to improve Chris Angel's "game" I would rather have somebody like Penn Jillette give him advice.

Your telling me Peyton couldn't help him learn to read defenses? Or help him with his mechanics?

I'm sure he could. Peyton could probably help any person in the world at any football position to some degree, so your question that sets up for an easy "yes" doesn't have any relevance. What matters is to the degree that he could help and the margin greater than another that he could help, and in conjunction with a cost-benefit analysis that factors in what it takes to acquire him as well as all of the opportunity costs related to such a transaction. Your follow- up question is meaningless without more specificity.

As a Jacksonville local and Jags fan, the talk about this is EVERYWHERE in Jacksonville. I really can't think of anyway that Tebow and Gabbert could be on the same team. Let's just say they are both on the team for camp and Gabbert beats out Tebow, the first time Gabbert throw an incomplete pass most of the crowd would be chanting for Tebow. You thought it was bad in Denver with Orton? Just think about it in a town full of people who have been in love with the kid since he was a 12th grader...

I wonder if Khan would overstep GM Gene Smith (who is not a fan of Tebow) to get a trade done with Denver. Shad Khan has already said if he were the owner back when Tebow was in the draft, that it would have been the one instance where he would have went over his GM's head.

Just a thought, but I wonder if Khan would trade Gabbert to Denver for Tebow and say a 2nd round draft pick. Elway seems to be looking for a way to get rid of Tebow, so I'm assuming he won't be asking for much. This trade would let Denver get their "QB of the future" in Gabbert to sit behind Manning (all this is assuming Peyton signs there) and the Jags get a face to their franchise.

One of Khan's first goals that he outlined for the Jags was to expand the team's fanbase past Jacksonville and into other areas like Southern Georgia, the panhandle, and down South to Gainseville, Daytona, and possibly Orlando. Getting Tebow would be a BIG step in that direction...

Adam Schefter
ESPN has learned Peyton Manning is working out for the Broncos today, but he does not make them the leader.

Reports are out that a private Broncos jet is leaving Denver to meet Manning in NC. I assume Broncos officials will be on it!

RT @wesleylhicks: Of course we are going to find out Tebow's future today because it is 3-16! ... Oh boy. Hadn't even thought of that.

If you have Manning Tebow is the last guy you want backing him up. You want a QB that can run the offense you have with Manning if something happens. You bring in Tebow you need to go back to running spread option football. Smart move would be sign Manning, trade Tebow, maybe draft someone like Kellen Moore to back up. Maybe sign a Chad Henne. Only issue I'm not sure there will be any takers for Tebow. Even if a team thinks he can help do they really want all the crazy attention that comes with him on the team. You bring him in as a back up and everyday Skip Bayless on TV saying your a idiot to not be starting him. If you start him how the offense you run sucks. Denver may have found a way out from Tebow. The next team that gets Tebow may not be as lucky.

Or maybe Tebow becomes more than decent next year with an actual training camp under his belt

Any other QB with his low accurancy and terrible rating you wouldn't be thinking about building around him. He has a way to go just to get to decent.
