Manning to Broncos

Post#1 » by Honey Bear » Mon Mar 19, 2012 4:31 pm

Peyton Manning will become the next quarterback of the Denver Broncos, barring a snag during intensified contract negotiations that have commenced under the instruction of the four-time MVP to his agent Tom Condon, according to multiple sources.

Once the Manning deal becomes official, Denver will try to trade Tim Tebow, according to so
urces.

Manning instructed Condon to negotiate the finite details of a contract that would conclude with him joining the Broncos after a frenzied but focused process that began when the Indianapolis Colts released him March 7.

Manning called Broncos vice president of football operations John Elway on Monday morning to tell him the news. Manning also called the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans to inform them of his intent to now play for Denver.

The 49ers really **** up by flirting with Manning. Not that Alex Smith is anything special, but it says a lot about their faith in him. Wouldn't be surprised to see them throw a Mark Sanchez type of deal at him to try and restore good faith.

Great move for the Broncos, btw. Maybe they'll be able to swindle multiple draft picks out of a team that is looking to sell tickets.

Great move by Denver. San Francisco is in a bind now. Miami will throw money at Alex Smith to get him away and then where does San Francisco go? Hey, does Coach Jim want to try and make another project QB into a star? Bet Jimmy Clausen can be had fairly inexpensive.

I don't think Alex Smith will go to Miami because he's looking for a 5 year deal, something Miami is prob not going to give him. I think Alex Smith was just trying to raise his value with all of this but at the end of the day he's probably going to end up right back with the 49ers.

As a Niner fan, I'm really not worried about Smith leaving. First of all, I doubt he'll leave but if he does he's not impossible to replace even if it takes another year. Don't budge on that 3/24 offer.

I agree. He's had two good seasons out of 6. Any more than that deal--which is basically what Flynn got--is too much.

Horrible choice by Manning.

Denver is a good team, but they aren't a super bowl ready team, and Manning doesn't have many years left to wait for them to get everything they need to win it all.

I wish he would have gone to KC or SF. Also, I don't really get why he was so against being in the same conference as his brother..I really don't see the big deal

I guess Manning wants to finish with 1 super bowl. I would have expected him to want to at least match Eli, but he seems content to exit in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs every year.

Sf is not in a bind. Alex was never signing with the dolphins, he just wanted more money from SF. He'll sign with SF for less than dolphin money. Nobody wants to go to that horrible dolphins team especially now that Brandon Marshall is gone. Team had a bad record last year and gets rid of its best receiver and then thinks QBs will want to join? LOL.

I do not honestly believe that Manning seriously intends to win a SB in Denver. I'm sure he firmly believes he has at least an outside chance to snag one throughout the rest of his years with them if things go well, but deep down I don't think he truly cares that great of a deal about winning a championshimp moreso than just having a secure place to have uncontested playing time AND a promise that they won't draft a QB to take his place soon like what INDY is doing. He just wants to make a fantastic living while being in a community and surrounded by a staff that he can enjoy himself and have a heck of a good time. Some people don't have to win the SB to have a helluva good time playing the game. I love football just as much or more than anybody, but I'm also never going to have a shot at playing in a SB, but that doesn't mean that I can't be the most passionate person in the world about that which I love. Peyton is content with what he has done with his career and he doesn't need to prove jack squat to anybody and win or lose he has found a connection to be part of Elway's team. So what if his title goals don't match up with what people assume they should be. It's his life and he's going to be thrilled playing for the team that is giving him what he wants, whatever that is.

Yes indeed, guys like David Carr are still available, so who gives a flying frak about Alex Smith. If Alex Smith is worth $8M a year then my grandma is worth $2M. Don't laugh, that's accurate football economics. Icness don't you dare tell me I'm ignorant about the business of the NFL now. lol ;)

mistake by manning. JESUS won that crowd over, hes walking into a volatile situation where if he does not win, he will look like an idiot. complete more passes. gain more yardage. and if those numbers add up to a loss?? He will know then he made a gigantic mistake in choosing denver. he will also find out that the best offensive linemen ... ARE NOT in denver. so much for protection. he will know when he is laying on his back that he made a gigantic mistake choosing denver.

wtf are you 2 talking about?
Manning is one of the most competitive players around, if you guys really think he only sees a 1st round exit and so forth as success you guys gotta be kidding me.
and what is wrong with this denver team? they have a D that always keeps them in games, has a line that is one of the best and a running game that worked last year. WR's maybe questionable but manning will find a way.

Andrew Brandt
Am being told Peyton will make $18 million in 2012. There is an injury waiver based on physical in 2013. More to come.

Uh, plenty if you're the kinda QB who wants to win a super bowl before you turn 40.

Denver went 8-8 last year in a terrible division, only winning it due to a combination of San Diego choking and Tebow rallying the team to play above themselves.

Compare that to SF, who was a fumble away from the Super Bowl and is bringing back their entire starting defense as well as adding their only missing piece which is a few WRs.

The situations are vastly different if you're looking to win now, but apparently Peyton would rather not risk hurting Eli's legacy knocking him out in the divisional rounds instead of hoping to face him in the Super Bowl.

They went 8-8 with piss poor quarterbacking. Imagine manning in the helm (even if he is 85% his old self).
Denver D is quite good, they were always in games and gave tebow the chance all the time. Now imagine putting manning that D.
They are bringing a WR coming out of one year not playing to solve their WR situation. good sign.
I look at the Broncos as
Good D - Check
Great line - Check
Good Running game - Check
Potential WR targets - Check

So i do not see how with all that you can say he is not thinking of winning a SB.

How the hell did you come up with something as silly as that with regards to him not wanting to join because of Eli?
I really do not understand how people can question Peyton's competitiveness / desire to win a SB. I think it is a joke considering all that he has done?

They are a decent team that overachieved due to rallying behind a emotional team leader in Tebow. There are 3-4 better teams out there in the AFC even with adding Peyton to Denver, that's the point.

If Peyton goes to SF there are no teams better in either conference than the 49ers on paper, plain and simple.

If his main goal was to win a SB he would of gone to the Bay, however it's obvious with his decision to go with a AFC team that his brother's legacy is arguably more important to him than his own. He'd rather have a tougher road to the SB(play on a worse team) as long as it meant he wouldn't face Eli until the big game.

Peyton Manning, Broncos make it official: Five years, $96 million

According to Andrew Brandt of the National Football Post, Manning will make $18 million in 2012 with no injury protection. If he passes a March 2013 physical, guarantees of $20 million will activate for 2013 and 2014, with an undisclosed injury waiver.
