Brees: Saints Believe They've Been Wronged

Brees told King there's a difference between paying a player for performing well in a game and paying a bounty for injuring a player, and what the Saints did was the former, not the latter.

forget about the ethical aspect of wanting to hurt and injure another human being, but if Brees is trying to argue that it is okay to pay players extra for "playing well", then that alone violates the NFL salary cap and gives the Saints an unfair advantage, and for the cheating with the salary cap is alot worst then trying to intentionally injure another human being

Come on now, pretty much every team in the league was probably doing this for decades now.

The BS was to single out New Orleans and make an example out of them.

Assumption? It's basically been confirmed by a ton of ex-players, they just won't go too deep into detail about it because you don't snitch on other players unless you're snitching on a snitch.

Lack of common sense and naivety in full display on RealGM at it's finest as usual.

Did New Orleans take it a step further then most teams? Maybe. Probably even.

But what it actually looks like is they were just sloppy and arrogant about it, thought they were above being singled out and so they were so cocky and so I'm not outraged by the penalties and such, but it's an obvious case of making an example out of one team to pump themselves(Goodell/NFL) up.

This is like when a law enforcement branch decides to go full all in on a large weed growing operation and the DA fully backing them and then they act like they busted the biggest heroin ring in the world and throw the book at the green thumbs.

Many teams may have their own version of bounty-gate, but that doesn't make it okay, and the Saints were the ones who got caught.

Doesn't look so stupid now that the NFL is backing down when they know they need to produce evidence.

Suspensions overturned, albeit sent back to Goodell for review on CBA violations for circumventing cap rules.

The players are cleared to play, but Vilma is bound for the PUP, Hargrove is a street FA, Fujita will not play in Week 1. Will Smith is the only one we might see this week, and the Saints really need him against RG3, he's one of the best edge-setters and backside contain ends in the league.

Not so fast. The Commish seems to disagree with those that feel his power is cut down. Man still plans on swinging the heavy hammer. Will see what happens when they meet next week.

So he is confronted with an affidavit. Sure he can dispute it, but I think it goes a good way in allowing the Commish to say that his suspension is due to the Bounty and on field conduct, and not towards the matter of this just violating the Salary Cap. Unless Vilma gave some evidence, not sure there is any reason for the Commish to reduce his original ruling.
