INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts owner Jim Irsay says his team is seriously contemplating a trade -- a deal that could possibly include a high draft pick.

On Thursday, Irsay wrote on Twitter that "serious" trade winds are blowing, though he also noted that often times these deals fall through.

I can honestly say that I have no clue what it is they might be trying to pull off. It'll obviously be to bring someone onto the offense to speed up Luck's progression, but I have no idea who that would be.

Thoughts?

UPDATE: Multiple reports have stated that Jones-Drew is not the Colts' target, with one saying that Irsay and Co. are chasing a cornerback.

Initially I thought MJD or Wallace but reports are saying CB so I have no idea.

The report also ruled out Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins and Baltimore Ravens cornerback Cary Williams.
...
Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis could be an option. Davis makes some sense from both the Colts' and Dolphins' perspectives. He's a talented player who could use a fresh start somewhere.

How is that a "serious" move? I feel like if they were trying to make noise very early in Luck's career, they'd get him another weapon on his side.

Or some o-line help.

I'd start with the line if I'm Indy, that kid might get roughup pretty good this year. He has solid enough weapons.

Two potentials:

--Freeney going to New England, for pick(s) and/or a RB

--Reggie Wayne to the Jets for one of their corners

the Vontae Davis rumors make sense too, he's not long for MIA

It is absolutely 100% not MJD.

It's not a major move, but they did talk to DET about tackle Jason Fox back at draft time.

Sending anyone from the Colts to the Pats just seems... Odd.

How about Jake Long or Ryan Clady?....although Jeff Backus has a lot more experience to fit with the "serious vet starter" description.

Only exciting DEF player it could be worth this Twitter action is CLIFF AVRIL

There's a rumor that Wes Welker could be involved in the deal since he was a healthy scratch yesterday. Maybe it's a multiple player deal involving Freeney.

Wow, Welker to the Colts?!

There are never really 3 team deals in the NFL right?

Welker to a 3rd team, picks and Freeney to the Pats and a different player to the Colts?

A new report now denies that Welker is their target too. I demand answers! What's Jim's cellphone number?

It's my understanding that once a player signs his franchise tag he is unable to be traded. That would rule out Welker, who is not going anywhere anyways. He makes no sense for the Colts--why would they want a 31-year old receiver that doesn't run routes longer than 10 yards when they have rookie QB, two rookie TEs, rookie slot receiver already? Paying him doesn't benefit them at all, they're paying for his impending inevitable decline. Irsay is not a fool in that regard.

One Indy person I trust (technically a former Colts brasser now) thinks Irsay is trying to motivate his guys by dangling the threat of bringing someone in over top them. I posited that that sounds like a message to the RBs to me, and he agreed but also brought up corner. They just brought in Josh Gordy and it sounds like he's going to start (insert gulp here, Colts fans!). To me the move that makes the most sense is getting Cromartie from the Jets, even though he absolutely would not fit in the locker room.

winnah winnah chicken dinnah.

Vontae to the Colts for a 2nd round pick.

Hard Knocks showcased his struggles, but I didn't think they'd go as far as trading him. Miami looks like they're gonna be really bad this season.

That seems like an awful lot to give up for Davis.

Michael Lombardi saying he's hearing lots of trade talk among other teams. Might not be the only NFL trade that goes down this weekend.

hmmm.

So this means that we can hopefully not hear much from Jim Irsay for a while? Sounds like a good trade.
