Gah, talk about overpaying cause of spite. I like Amendola, but you totally gave him this contract to spite what welker did to you. Stupid. To anyone who thinks differently, that's BS, you can tell by the .1 million.

Amendola also received three more years than what the Patriots were offering Welker.

Apparently the Pats offered Welker 2 years - 10 million, don't understand why they didn't just match the Broncos offer at least.

I have tried to explain this to patriot fans in the past, but they denounce it as hate. But hopefully they can now see the troof. Overpaying for amendola, while unwilling to pay for a proven guy(welker) who has performed with excellence for your franchise. And Incredibly, it was reported that Bellichek did this based on the recommendation of Coach McDaniels!?! Oh boy, thats a joke. His talent evaluation led him to believe that Tim Tebow was an NFL QB.

It's actually 0.2M/year, Rapoport can't do simple math, and neither can I apparently.

I think the Pats were smart to let Welker walk. He is on the downside, but more pertinent is the fact that when both Gronk and Hernandez were healthy, Welker was not anything more than the 3rd option in the passing game. You don't pay that kind of $$ for a 3rd option...
...which makes the Amendola signing downright comedic. This is a guy who breaks bones (plural) every season. He's not as electric after the catch as Welker and not a good at getting open as Welker. He's Mr. Glass in terms of durability. I've heard what the Skins were dangling for him and the Pats more than doubled it. Insane waste of money that Pats fans are going to rue for 5 years.

QFT
Not matching Welker at 12/2 to then go out and sign Amendola for 30/5 is nothing more than Belicheck flexing his ego.

Well to be fair, Amendola was signed before Welker left.

They signed Amendola after they decided to let Welker leave.

You mean the Rams b/c Skins have no money.

so the real numbers are in, effectively this deal is for 2 years 11 million with 3 one year team options.
this looks like a pretty friendly deal for the patriots.
including roster bonuses- this deal potentially has total value of 5 years, 27.7 million
Signing bonus
$6 million
Base salaries
2013 -- $2 million (fully guaranteed)
2014 -- $3 million ($2 million guaranteed)
2015 -- $4 million (0 guaranteed)
2016 -- $5 million (0 guaranteed)
2017 -- $6 million (0 guaranteed)

The offense is definitely built around the two tight ends. I can understand spending money on a wide out, but not a slot receiver, though. Far too much money spent on the middle of the field.

Good deal by the Pats essentially trading Welker in for a newer model. The only question mark is health, as Amendola has been very injury prone. But if he stays healthy he's going to light it up in the slot with Brady.
