Steven Jackson, Atlanta Falcons agree to contract
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported the veteran running back agreed to terms on a contract Thursday with the Atlanta Falcons, according to a team source. ESPN's Adam Schefter had the first report, and the Falcons later announced that Jackson has agreed to a three-year contract.
I dont think there's any denying that that Falcons are the best offense in the league now.

Perfect fit for him. That Falcons offense is going to scary good next year.

This makes zero sense to me.
Step 1 - Release their veteran running back, Michael Turner, to give their RB of the future more carries.
Step 2 - Sign a similar veteran running back, Stephen Jackson, to put Jacquizz back on the bench.

SJ brings alot more to the table. He's more durable and he's a far superior receiver out of the backfield. Turner is washed up, he was averaging a measly 3.6 ypc last season.

Unlike Turner Jackson's still got some gas left in the tank. Plus he's actually a threat to catch the ball unlike Turner.

nice to see falcons are spending their money on aging running back instead of fixing their piss poor defense. one less obstacle for niners.

The team uses their offense to overwhelm opposing teams, so they're going to keep adding weapons on that side. The general manager saw that the formula got his team within one game of the Super Bowl, so he's not going to abandon the idea. I'm a defensive guy as well, but I can see where their logic is with this signing.

The Falcons were a few yards away from making the Super Bowl over your vaunted Niners with that piss poor defense and Turner doing absolutely nothing. Making improvements anywhere on the field is going to be beneficial. Niners will still be the favorite obviously, but it's a good move for the Falcons. There's still a lot of time left in the offseason.

I wouldn't be so quick to call the Niners the favorites, as they're going through some personnel changes (Walker, Sopoaga and Goldson). The team is still stacked with talent, but there's going to be an adjustment period still.

Can the Falcons go after Dumervil, Osi Umenyiora, Dwight Freeney, or Richard Seymour now?
i love the Captain Jack signing, and maybe a 2nd round pick for Revis, who knows,..... but the Falcons NEED a pass rusher before they will be a Super Bowl favorite.

they were also few yards away from being one and done again and allowed essentially two rookie quarterbacks to put up 28 points at home. this would've been a good move if there wasn't a salary cap to worry about but they need to address more pressing issues on defense with the available space, especially since one the few good players on that unit already left. that is unless their strategy for every playoff game is to wait for other team to start off slow and pray that matt ryan doesn't choke.

This is a good signing. Jackson has always been a really good back stuck on a garbage team. Now imagine how productive he'll be with a legit passing attack, I like Jaquizz Rodgers as much as anyone but he is not built to be a full time 25 carry a game back. Jackson can, although he'll likely split some with Rodgers.
Just as everyone declared San Fran and Seattle as the NFC power teams, Atlanta puts themselves right back into the race. The NFC is gonna be insane next year.

It wasn't that long ago that the NFC West was considered one of the weakest in the league. Things change pretty quickly in football.
EDIT: I forgot it wasn't 1990, and the Falcons are no longer in the NFC West.

Yeah, the NFC is going to be crazy going into the playoffs. There's plenty of teams that won't make it just because of the 6 playoff slots.

I have a feeling that a two very good teams are going to barely miss the playoffs this year and another WC will be added in 2015.

IMO it's a 4 horse race in the NFC this year, it's between San Fran, Seattle, Atlanta, and don't discount Green Bay: any team that has Aaron Rodgers has a chance. Great signing for Atlanta: the terms of the contract are 3 years 12 million with only 4 mil guaranteed (only the first year is guaranteed, which is good because he'll be 30 next year). With the resigning of Gonzalez and the signing of Captain Jack the Falcons have 7.5 million left in cap space, enough to pursue a nice pass rusher like Dumervil, Freeney, or Osi. Great pickup by TD.

I wouldn't quite call it a four horse race. Not with the NFL. I'm sure the Ravens weren't a part of the race when last season opened up.

A team that was a missed FG away from the Super Bowl wasn't part of the race?
