According to Schefter, "league-wide speculation" has a Rodgers extension obliterating the field with a possible APY of $25 million per season, a substantial increase over the $12.7 million APY Rodgers received in his current contract. Rodgers' signed his current deal - worth a total of $65 million over seven seasons (2008-14) and $63.5 million in "new money" over five new seasons - midway through his first season as the Packers' starting quarterback. That deal included $20 million in guaranteed money, a figure Rodgers will likely more than triple in a new extension.
We have a new record breaking contract, ladies and gentlemen.

For someone that actually deserves it, go figure.

If they are smart they structure it so that a big portion of the cap hit is immediate. They swallow that now to free up room for Matthews new deal next year. He'll get ~$15M/yr and as the Lions have proven you cannot have two massive contracts and depth at any position at all without creative structuring.
Love that he's getting it done. Rodgers is the best player in the league the last three years and is in the heart of his prime.

There are a few Packers beat people who say that a Clay Matthews extension is just as close to being announced, and if I remember right Rodgers and Matthews share the same agent. I'll be really curious to see how Russ Ball structures this. With all the execs plucked from the Packers front office the last few years, I'd be really scared if they had lost somebody with Ball's financial expertise.
I'm glad they are getting these done now, but Raji will be a free agent after this season too, not to mention Mike Neal who had a very underrated season last year and was a big part of the Packers improving to second in the league in Sacks.
That said, Rodgers deserves every dollar.

There's a lot of creativity required if they're going to give Rodgers $25 million a year. You're going to have to find ways to fill the roster with quality players in that scenario. Green Bay has a good track record of doing that, but they're still handcuffing themselves with a deal this big. Granted, Rodgers deserves to be paid. Tough shoes to be in for the GM.

Worth every penny.
Actually if anything he's underpaid.
