Vikings trend of losing continues and the finish the season with 4-6 wins. Frazier doesn't get offered a new contract and change is needed throughout a roster with franchise players such as Allen and Williams at end of their current deals.

The questions is: Do Vikings trade Adrian Peterson?

Assuming a "Herschel Walker" type package could be had for AP, meaning 2-3 1st round picks, 2-4 other round picks, maybe even a young player in return.

I will get the dialogue started...

Obviously trading face of franchise player is tough to sell fans and supporters of an organization seeking new stadium. But if a Herschel Walker like deal could be had, combine 3-5 draft picks in early rounds of '14 draft with 3 1st round picks in '13, plus potential of multiple early round picks in '15, Vikings would have 80/90's Dallas Cowboy like instant infusion of youth and potential.

I also think about an aging NFL running back, AP actually getting a chance at running the ball for something meaningful, in the playoffs, potentially for a Superbowl contender. Assuming team he is traded to would be such a team.

They couldn't even trade Peterson even if they wanted too.

Hes on a 100mil contract plus the fact you would have to dish up numerous amount of draft picks. He will be 29 going into next season which he still would be the best HB but his best days are winding down. Its not a knock on Peterson hes a phenomenal player.

no one is giving up the house for a running back making as much money or as old as he is, or they shouldn't anyway

running isn't the way in the nfl anymore anyway - not to mention there would probably be a mutiny here, he's purple jesus after all

I picture Denver as a good landing spot for AP. With Manning 37 going to be 38, Denver is all-in. And for AP it would be a treat to watch him run against a non stacked box for his last few highly productive years.

AP for Montee Ball (their 2nd rd pick in'13), '14 1st rd pick (prob. 25+), 2016 1st (Vikes gamble Manning will retire and take '16 over '15) plus some early and mid round picks varied over couple years.

That would give Vikes around 6 picks in '14 first 3 rounds, plus 3 1st Rounders last year. That is 9 players in 2 years to build young core around. Combined with Smith, Rudolph and Kalil make for promising future.

That trade would be mind-blowingly awful and John Elway (even after all those blows to the head) is nowhere near dumb enough to make that move. Purple Jesus will turn 29 before the 2014 season and will be two years removed from complete knee reconstruction. The shelf-life of top-tier, high carry volume running backs has gone down to basically 3-4 seasons in the last decade, or so. The Broncos would effectively be selling the farm for a guy who might have another 2-3 good-to-great seasons left in his tank.

And like you said, Peyton Manning is a bit smarter than your average Favre and would realistically have a couple more great seasons left. So, the Broncos going all in to bring in a running back to add to the system, but then have no means of rebuilding once the Peyton era is over, would be devastatingly bad for any franchise.

Any GM dumb enough to unload for Purple Jesus now is not a GM I'd want on my favorite team.

Five years ago I would say this maybe has a glimmer of a chance. Not today.

too hard to trade Peterson, but they should trade Jared Allen, Greenway, Robison, and Jerome Simpson for whatever they can get

If the Vikes did trade Peterson they wouldn't get much for him at all.

I know TRich fetched a 1st, but he's still young and was very recently a #3 overall pick.

The Vikes just need to draft and develop the right QB. Everyone knew Ponder would suck, yet they still took him. That was their biggest mistake. When they had Favre for a year they were a play away from the Super Bowl.
