Jonathan Martin

Jim Harbaugh has said he respects Martin as a man and as a football player. So why not bring him to the Niners to revive his career?

The offensive line starting unit is young and strong with the exception of Goodwin. His current contract ends after this season with Kilgore and Looney as the primary backups at guard and center. If any injuries occur besides center, then Snyder slides in at any position to fill the void.

The defensive line starts Smith, McDonald and now Dorsey. Their primary backups are the underrated Tony Jerrod Eddie and DeMarcus Dobbs. Dobbs will be a free agent after this season so his days are numbered because he could find himself starting for some teams. Their backups are Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial. Tank is on season ending IR while Dial has only played sparingly, if at all. And let's not forget Ian Williams, the season's opening day starter at nose tackle, who is set to return next year.

So what will it take to get Martin? With improved depth at the defensive line, why not a trade of Quintin Dial for Jonathan Martin?

Miami could used some depth at the defensive line and if gives Dial a better chance to see the field. Usually the Niners activate only 5 linemen during a game. Martin could be a younger cheaper version of Snyder who can only get better. Martin's value can get lower so a straight up deal is possible and the Niners get to keep all their draft picks to trade up to get their players without having to used on a rookie who might not make the team.

So the new starter at center would be Kilgore or Looney with Martin and Snyder as the main backups.

Why trade for Martin when you can get him for free after Miami releases him?

I like the idea of potentially bringing Martin to the Niners. That being said, I'd give up at most a 7th rounder for him.

harbaugh is not going to bring in a bad player into the team just because he respects him personally, might get him to training camp if he gets cut but doubt he would give up anything substantial for martin.

He isn't worth all the media attention a move like that would bring, plus the Niners OL is pretty damn good as it is.
