NEW YORK -- In a nod to both the excellence of those who were in their first year of eligibility as well as those who waited some time for their turn, former Seattle Seahawks tackle Walter Jones, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks and former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan led the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2014.

The class was selected after a nine-hour meeting of the Hall's Board of Selectors, believed to be the longest-ever meeting of the selectors. Also voted in on Saturday were former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed, cornerback Aeneas Williams, as well as defensive end Claude Humphrey and punter Ray Guy.

Jones and Brooks were in their first year of eligibility while Guy and Humphrey were both finalists chosen by the Hall's Seniors Committee.

Great to see Derrick Brooks and Walter Jones get in on their first ballot. As a Giants, I'm ecstatic to see Mikey get in, too.

And FINALLY, Ray Guy gets his due diligence and is inducted by the Senior Voter Committee.

Sorry, but Walter Jones headlines this class. Top 2-3 left tackles of all time.

Fair enough, I meant no disrespect to Walter Jones. It'll be great to hear his induction speech since the big guys never get the real opportunity to talk while they play (Larry Brown's from last year was fantastic).

I just wish I knew why the voters put in Williams and Reed ahead of guys like Marvin Harrison or Will Shields.

Whoops, sorry. I was watching SMU's upset of Memphis earlier, so that probably made that happen.

The only real beef I had with this class is Andre Reed. And that's not me saying Reed isn't worthy, because he is.
But Tim Brown and Marvin Harrison both belong in before him.

I would have put Charles Haley in over all of the receivers though. Won 5 Super Bowls and had a lot to do with all those wins. As good at dipping his shoulder and turning the corner to the QB as any player in NFL history. Sure he was an incorrigible a-hole to both coaches and the media, but he was an awesome player.

really after reading boys will be boys, that makes me wanna put his crazy ass in all the more

also icness, im curious what your opinion is on darren woodson? i know since he's got practically zero consideration that he's years away at bets at getting in but i think he deserves at least to be in the final 15 or so. 3 time all pro 5 time pro bowler, 3 time champion all time franchise leader in tackles. not to mention the safety positions been a joke for us since he left.

I remember Aeneas Williams as a player, and how long he played at a pretty great level, but I just don't see him as a Hall of Famer.

Is he on the same level as a guy like Rod Woodson?

The overriding narrative with those Cowboys teams was the offensive triplets and the great OL. The D will never get it's due, not after Deion anyways. Unfortunate because Woodson was a very good player. He's a guy I could see the senior committee liking a lot in 25 years.

Nobody is as good as Rod Woodson except maybe Ronnie Lott. Best DB I've ever seen. Legit HOFer as both a corner and a safety.

Forget where I saw it from, but somebody tweeted that Williams had the lowest completion percentage against of any CB from 1990-2005, better even than Deion. I remember him most for jamming the hell out of guys at the line and completely throwing off timing, which was the answer to the West Coast offense at that time.

He's as good as Mike Haynes, who got in last year, IMO

I thought Mike Haynes got in like 10-15 years ago?

after looking at aeneas williams stats for awhile, they are pretty impressive. quite a few int's and td's. was also a 5 time all pro. guess i just felt like a guy like harrison or shields was more deserving. but the hall seems to hate putting in more than 1 guy a year at a position.

i think it's incredibly stupid that they can only elect 5 guys max from the current ballot on there along w/the 2 senion picks

also, that harlot in your avy is sexy as hell jeff

Good class, all deserving.

I feel old, because I remember most of these guys in their primes. :(
