Popular teams with a good history

Facebook's most popular teams:

With the exception of the Saints and Patriots, the other teams near the top all have a good history. The teams near the bottom do not.
Twitter's most popular teams:

Again, most of the teams near the top have a good history while those near the bottom don't. I thought people pull for teams more based on location, but this tells me winning is more important than anything. Which do you think is more important for the average fan?
