how are Cowboys so good?

Post#1 » by Pharmcat » Mon Oct 20, 2014 2:17 pm

Serious question

I thought Jerry Jones had ruined this team with his poor GM decisions....but this team is ROLLING

fluke?
or is Jones a better GM than the media makes him to be?
or schedule?

thanks!

Not the schedule they played and beat good teams. The OL looks much better than expected and as a result Romo looks healthier/better protected than usual. Their patched up defense which was widely expected to be horrible has exceeded expectations.

and DeMarco Murray.

starts and ends with o-line and jerry was smart to focus on bolstering that area. you can't run the way murray has been running without stellar o-line, romo has benefited as well.

it is not as bad as last year but their defense is still pretty poor, it just looks decent on paper since dallas offense dominates time of possession. but at least they get turnovers.

Projections before the season had Dallas set for another. 500 season. The O-Line was expected be good but other areas of the team have been stellar.

Is all the O-Line, is what is allowing Murray to run that effectively and what gets Romo off-the-ball, and gives him more time to avoid picks, plus gets the defense, limited defense, off the field.

Well its Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett's plan Jason saw the OL was in terrible shape 3 years ago when they started overhauling the line and it is just now coming to bear fruit. Still need a RT. On defense they have excellent coaching from Rod Marinelli and the players are buying into the "team " concept that Garrett has been preaching since he took the job. Lunch Pail coach and Lunch Pail players playing as a unit. Lots of work to do on the Defense still need a DE S & CB but they swarm to the ball and believe that they c an get the job done.

Offense that keeps them off the field and fresh helps more than anything

As said, O Line. 3 of the last 4 first round picks for Dallas were offensive lineman, and they've all been pretty good.

Their offense as a whole is loaded. As much as Romo may choke at times, he's still a damn good QB. And their skill players are terrific. Bryant is the best WR in the league now(with Megatron being injured), Williams is a damn good deep threat, and now they have another athletic beast TE in Escobar to compliment Witten who just never seems to age. And of course, their OL is just a brickwall. Romo has 5+ seconds to throw everytime and Murray gets 5+ yards before even being touched.

They're still not very good on D, but they don't seem to be making the type of defensive mistakes they made last year. They aren't giving up huge plays to wide open guys, they aren't missing tackles, and they aren't committing penalties. Half the battle is not making mistakes and they aren't making any. They're very well coached on D, but it could be an issue for them when they face the Eagles within the division.

As a Skins fan it kills me to say it but the Cowboys have as good a shot as anyone to win the NFC. I do still think the Eagles are favored though, I think they're a little more well rounded and I'll take Chip Kelly over Jason Garrett everytime.

Their OL.

I feel confident that I could run behind their O line and probably pick up 70-80 yards on a decent YPC.

The OL.
They have had romo, dez,Murray for awhile now.

The offense IMO had always been top notch whether it was romo throwing Aton or now Murray running.
It was also a explosive offense in years past.

Not that they can run it keeps the cowboys defense off the field.
It's resulting in wins. I can't wait to see arizona run D vs Murray

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

the great oline play has also allowed to have a much more balanced offense, i think they are running like 50% of plays while the last few years have been in the 30s

takes pressure off romo

so is this a scenario where next draft they focus only on their D since their O is set?

1a) Improved running game into an elite running game- Theyve always had a QB who can fling it around to their talented Recievers, but Romo now has less pressure on him (literally when he's back to pass and figuratively now that he doesnt need to pass/score as much). Murray is running great thanks to their Oline.

1b) An inspired Defence flying around for their DC. Marinelli has them boys playing fast and physical and its fun to watch that type of defense.

They have a good running game and OL, maybe the D is overachieving but they are good.

They've beaten St. Louis, Tennessee and Houston. Their most 'impressive' win was against New Orleans and even then the Saints looked terrible a few weeks back. Soft schedule, they racked up wins. It's pretty much all divisional games, and games vs. Arizona and the Colts from here on out. I also see Murray running out of gas, they're running him into the ground.

I'll reserve judgment until later. The fact that I still have hope for the Giants winning the division says everything about the respect I have for the Cowboys and Eagles. I'm definitely favoring schedule.

Looks like all their young kids on the OL struggle picking up blitzes.

Completely missed Seattle, but it's sorta like college though...in the sense that it looks good at the moment, but 2-3 weeks later and it's like..."eh it wasn't that impressive." But my point still stands, half their wins came against teams .500 or worse.
