Russell Wilson Top 5 QB...

...according to these former Super Bowl winning quarterbacks, Phil Simms, Trent Dilfer, Steve Young, and Kurt Warner. Some quotes from them...
Phil Simms:
Simms' response: "NFL Top 5."
"Let's get over this, please," Simms added. "He is one of the top five quarterbacks in this league, hands down. One rifle throw after another. Everybody knows the plays that are coming and he still rips it in there. Quote me, he is top five."
From Trent Dilfer:
"It's mind-boggling how many myths he's busting each time he plays football," he said.
More from Dilfer in his discussions about Wilson with Steve Young:
"We sit there and talk about it, and Steve even at times says 'I think he's better than me at this, I think he's better than I was at that,'" Dilfer said. "He's truly become one of the greatest players in the National Football League."
From Kurt Warner:
Warner followed suit, writing the words "confident," "complete" and "evolving."
"Only thing left is 'consistency' of playing at this level from a passing standpoint," Warner texted. "If he can do this for the bulk of his career we will one day be talking about him as one of the best to play the game!"
Let's end this discussion once and for all. Russell Wilson is a ELITE quarterback in the NFL.

Trent Dilfer is the lowest of the low when it comes to super bowl winning quarterbacks. Right now I take Brady, Palmer, Newton, Rodgers over Wilson, so I guess Wilson does sneak into that 5th spot, the illustrious 5th best QB in the league!

Turco at it again.
Look as a Hawks fan who has seen almost every snap, I wouldn't trade Russ for anyone right now. Yes, he's been
elite this season. Has he been as great as Brady or Rodgers consistently? Simply no. But, this is a QB that is only in his 4th year. Going forward he will be considered elite. It takes time for QB's to develop. We all know Rodgers sat for 4 years. Brady was a "game manager" his first couple seasons. Cam is playing on an MVP level in his
5th season. Andy Dalton after 4 years, has taken a leap this year. Kirk Cousins is another coming into his own. It just takes time.

The playoffs will dictate his greatness. Considering how poorly he played vs. Green Bay last season I'll have to wait and see.

Well so far a trip to and a win in the divisional playoffs his rookie year, a Super Bowl win his second season, and a return trip to the Super Bowl his third season. That's pretty damn impressive so far.

Yeah, but he was carried by the defense and beastmode.

I think people also forget just how good he was in that Atlanta playoff game. It was the defense that didn't show up that day. Completely put the team on his back.

Won a Super Bowl vs. a very bad Denver defense, and lost his team the Super Bowl with a very bad decision to end the game. He still has time, but as of right now not too impressive.

76.6 passer rating isn't overly terrible.

God told him to do that very bad play guys, he's still elite

I'm sure most people would be fine with calling Wilson a top 5 QB this season. I don't think a quote from Phil Simms "confirming" it is anything to get excited about. And unless you cut that part of the quotes, none of the other guys said he was top 5. Strange thread.

Well he's definitely better than Trent Dilfer ever was, no question about that.
Just think about the QBs in the league so far. It's kind of hard to name 5 better than him. Brady and Rodgers are givens, it gets fuzzy after that though.
On the next tier you have: Big Ben, Dalton, Newton, Eli Manning, Palmer, Romo (when healthy), Wilson (in no particular order)
I think Wilson is at least as good, if not better than, all of those guys. There are some really good young guys now, but they aren't there yet.

He's definitely taken a step up in his game. He was just a game managing run first type guy before, but now he's putting up huge #s with his arm. The guy is just a beast. I think he's absolutely in the top 5.

When you look at things that way, you could come up with an argument why Brady, or Rodgers, or Manning, or Favre is overrated. Brady lost two Super Bowls to inferior teams, and should have lost last years. Rodgers has only won one, and only started in one. Manning only won one, and his playoff appearances have been subpar in relation to his regular season stats. Favre only won one. etc... Catch my drift?

Okay, exchange "elite" or "top tier", or whatever you choose for top 5.

in terms of playoffs it is going to take him awhile to get over last year's super bowl, elite qbs dont make that mistake. he is behind rodgers, brady, palmer, big ben, right on the next tier with buncha other guys.

That kind of stuff is said about every good QB. I've been hearing about how unbelievably amazing Matt Ryan is since his first NFL pass and I don't think he has ever been considered top 5.
I'm just saying, it's silly to make a thread to settle once and for all that Wilson is a top 5 quarterback and then have one quote from Phil Simms of all people calling him a top 5 quarterback.

First of all, that play wasn't all on Wilson. Jermaine Kearse missed his pick/block that made the interception possible. It was a timing pass. A missed block on such a timing pass and the play changes while the ball is being released.
Anyway, it was a terrible call.

Steve Young, Kurt Warner, Trent Dilfer, and Phil Simms, you know, former SB winning quarterbacks who know a whole lot more than anyone on this forum about such things by a country mile.
