Is Jeff Fisher a good coach?
It seems like he used to be, but perhaps the NFL has passed him by. I read somewhere that he is the longest tenured coach without a playoff appearance, or maybe even a winning record.

Jeff Fisher's teams are so well coached and disiplined. Can't figure out why he has never been coach of the year, lol.

I feel like he's George Karl in the NFL. Not a bad coach, but just sticks around forever being average.

In the Schottenheimer mold.

I actually came here to create a new thread just to rag on Jeff Fisher. He's coached for 21 full seasons and he's 12 games over .500 with a whopping 6 playoff appearances. He has all the offensive imagination of a rock. I'm pretty sure he makes the QB run laps for every pass attempt that crosses the line of scrimmage. Todd Gurley is facing a short career full of slamming into 10 man fronts 50 times a game until his body crumbles. Most of his defensive toughness seems to come from playing on the brink of a 15 yard flag. He looks like he would be the jerk assistant manager at an Auto Zone.

Why was Goff inactive yesterday? makes no sense to me especially with how bad Keenum played. Jeff Fisher could destroy Goff

They were wrong then too. Belichick already was the best along with Billick, Dungy, Cowher, Reid, Holmgren all being better than Fisher. Hell, by 2006, John Fox was already at least as good as Fisher. Joe Gibbs was back with the Redskins, Schottenheimer was with SD and there's no way Fisher is better than those two. If I wanted to go coach by coach, he'd probably struggle to be considered a top 15 coach back then, much less now that he has seemingly evolved backwards while the game has moved forward.

Re: Is Jeff Fisher a good coach?
gibbs? gibbs was considered a joke, has been, like fisher seen as now. more or less same with holmgren. billick was and still is seen mediocre as that's why he hasnt been employed in years. schottenheimer was a chronic choker. ditto for dungy and cowher before they've won super bowls around 05-06. fisher had four 11+ win seasons in five year period 99-04 and was lauded for doing it without spectacular talent, building inside out, and around those years he was certainly among the most respected coaches.

I'd say more Byron Scott. Karl always did pretty well with teams. Scott is stuck in 15 years ago's success and won't budge. Not to mention he won't let Goff play for whatever reason even though they gave up a gang of picks to get him.

Gibbs took over the Redskins in 2004 after his hiatus. Since then he and Fisher both have the same number of playoff wins...0 The only catch is that Fisher has been active all but one season since then.
Holmgren has guided teams to multiple Super Bowls, winning one. In 2006, in fact, since you reference ten years ago as Fisher's high water mark, Holmgren was coming off his second Super Bowl appearance which is twice as many as Fisher, but Holmgren actually won one and did so rather convincingly against Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells.
Billick hasn't coached since 2007 and he still has coached a Super Bowl more recently than Fisher and he won his. It's not uncommon for good coaches to call it a day on their career in favor of equal pay and far less stress in a TV booth. If at any point since 2007 he had made himself available, he'd have been hired in five minutes.
Schottenheimer has exactly the same amount of championships as Fisher and after last night, they have coached the exact number of games in their career. Schottenheimer has 31 more wins.
I don't totally disagree with you about Cowher and Dungy, but that being the case, the fact that I have to admit that two guys with strong Steeler ties are better than someone else and the fact that they both managed to pull a SB out of their ass before they got the hell out of dodge, should be enough to show they are significantly better than Fisher.
That lack of talent around that time included a 10k yard rusher in his prime, an MVP caliber QB and an elite pass rusher in Jevon Kearse just off the top of my head. Whatever respect he may have had then has long since faded. He's a joke and the team he is now in the fifth year of building just got schooled by Chip Kelly last night.

Yeah that actually might be more accurate. I feel like Fisher's had some mild success though.

Oh yeah, Jeff Fisher was 4-7 all time vs. Brian Billick.

HOW IS JEFF FISHER STILL COACHING?
Having been forced by the NFL to watch the Titans play for years, I just wonder why Jeff Fisher is still a head coach. After riding Eddie George to a Super Bowl in 1999, Fisher has been slightly better than mediocre since. Watching the Rams get dismantled by the 49ers just reinforces that opinion. Are the Rams content with a coach who goes 8-8 in a good year? How does mediocrity keep going like that?
—Richard Ernsberger
Rams owner Stan Kroenke seems determined to sign Fisher to an extension despite not getting the Rams to the playoffs in four years. He points to Fisher’s handling of the move to Los Angeles. I get that, but if there are more clunkers like the 28-0 debacle Monday night, it’s going to be tough for Kroenke to keep standing behind Fisher.
