Race to get fired

Post#1 » by RavenMad31 » Tue Sep 20, 2016 1:53 pm

Okay, the Rams inexplicably have extended the contract of Mr. .500, so he's apparently out of the running. Right now, it looks like a three horse race to see who can get fired first and I think the race is, or at least should be, too close to call.
I've got as follows:

Rex Ryan: The team has gotten progressively worse since he has taken over, there's now blood in the water with the clumsy firing of the OC and the Bills are an ugly 0-2 with a difficult schedule ahead of them.
Jay Gruden: Another 0-2 start including an embarrassing thrashing by the Steelers on national television and a loss to the injury plagued Cowboys in week 2. Gruden's clout from coming off a playoff year could be countered by wacky Dan Snyder's quick trigger and irrational football decisions.
Gus Bradley: The Jaguars have made commendable efforts to upgrade the talent level of their football team, yet sit at 0-2 and still look like the 2-14 kind of mess you'd expect from previous seasons. In a year that was supposed to be a coming out party for a young, upcoming team, it has instead been the same kind of shake your head disappointment.

In order, I would fire Ryan, Bradley and Gruden and expect that that will be the order of these three guys losing their jobs.
Keep an eye on Chuck Pagano as the horses approach the far straightaway.

Don't forget Chip Kelly. He's officially a gimmick that's been exposed until proven otherwise.

If the Jags lose the next two games, then it wouldn't surprise me to see Bradley fired after they get back from the London game. They will then have a bye week to transition to a new coach whether that be Doug Marrone or a guy like Tom Coughlin.

Mike McCoy should be added to this list. If Chargers miss playoffs once again despite a QB like Rivers then no way should he remain. He should've been fired a while ago but he kept using the injury excuse to keep his job. Now there's still injuries but he can't keep using that excuse.

I won't be surprised if Gruden and Bradley don't make it till the end of the season. Ryan may, but I doubt he makes it past that.

A few that I would add are Marvin Lewis, Jason Garrett, and my dark horse pick, John Fox.

Can we nominate coordinators? I'd like to fire my OC.

I think the nice win Sunday and the fact that the Chargers front office seems to make football decisions with fiscal considerations rather than performance ones, McCoy's seat is on simmer at worst. The three guys, and possibly the fourth, have got to already be hot and will be approaching a boil over with another bad loss or two.

Those three all would fall under end of year firing candidates rather than ones that could be given the Old Yeller treatment literally any minute now. My feelings on those guys is that the Bengals finally beat some crappy division winner perhaps from the AFC South and save Marvin's job, Garrett is okay in Dallas for one more year and John Fox is intriguing as I just muttered last night about him maybe having fallen behind the curve as a coach.

Chip gets at the very least one more year and he is still above .500 as an NFL head coach which is better than a lot of guys who have been given more than 3 seasons and 2 weeks as a HC.

It would take a monumental collapse similar to Wade's in 2010 for Jerry to pull the trigger on that. And the fact Jerry stumbled into Dak almost makes it unlikely for a collapse to happen.

Same with Lewis. Mike Brown has had plenty of chances to run Marvin off. Personally - his ass would have been gone after that playoff fiasco last January.

Fox is different. I'm not sure how much patience the Bears organization has if this streak of bad performances continues. And after looking at their schedule, there is a distinct possibility of them being 1-5 going into that Thursday night game in Green Bay. That offense is bad.

I give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a classic backup QB turned coach and a Princeton guy, so he's not a complete idiot. When his name was mentioned among possible head coaches, there was interest around the league. He has dealt with a fragile QB playing under him and a meddling owner that handcuffs his ability to ever really have complete control over the team. If Harbaugh disappeared and Garrett was suddenly our coach, I wouldn't be mad.

Trust me you don't want Darrell Bevell as your OC. This is the same guy who thought it would be a good idea to throw the ball instead of just run it in with Lynch or Wilson with the Super Bowl on the frigging line. Bonehead of all boneheads. :banghead:

I'll let Flacco throw any pass he wants in the Super Bowl. I don't care if I have Walter Payton in the backfield. Strategically, that call has never bothered me. If he tried to punch it in and Wilfork managed to sniff it out and stuff the play two yards deep, they'd have been crucified for being too predictable with the season on the line. It was a bad call only because it didn't work. It didn't work only because of a great defensive play.

Probably the best role for him. Also wouldn't surprise me to see him go back to Seattle when it's all said and done.

As much as I believe in stability at head coach, if the Dolphins lose to the Browns today at home, I would be tempted to kick Gase to the curb and just admit I screwed that one up.

I think it's safe to say Gus Bradley just took the lead in this race.

The culture in Miami is just horrendous. Don Shula days are long gone. Yes they screwed up and have for many years. Not a bright future for the Dolphins in my book.
