Recent trade rumors involving New Orleans and Cleveland. If Brady plays next season expect to hear a lot more later. A good but not great quarterback prospect, very good production in very limited minutes, injured in his second game, and will be getting paid soon. With Cassell in our minds, what do you get rid of for him?

If I'm the Pats, I don't trade him at all.

his contract ends next year, some team is going to offer him a monster contract and reins to a franchise. pats going to have to trade him if brady doesnt retire.

Jimmy Garoppolo, the next backup QB to Scott Mitchell the hell out of some team this off season.

Don't worry Texans will probably offer him a 72 million dollar contract

I didn't realize his contract ends next year. Well if I'm the Pats I'll just wait to see how Brady performs at the end of this season. If I can see retirement coming soon, I'm keeping Garapollo.

Garapollo is not Matt Cassell, so stop comparing the two. If you watched both players, you can tell a distinct difference between the two. Cassell didn't always make smart decision and would throw dumb interceptions unlike Garapollo. Cassell doesn't have Garapollo arm (power or accuracy). Cassell also isn't as mobile as Garapollo. I knew Cassell was limited the moment I saw him, which explains is why he's been a backup all his career in college and NFL until Brady's injury. I don't view Garapollo in that same light.

Cassell also had a much larger sample size though. As in 555 passes to 62 in a Pats uniform. Cassell also had 230 yards per game in his starter season while Garoppolo had 124 while starting. I'm not saying he's necessarily the next Cassell, but I'm not sold on him as a legitimate starter in the NFL. I think he gets paid far more than he's worth after this season, and good on him for it.

I dislike using stats to determine a players actual skill but if you're going to throw stats, please throw them accurately. Garoppolo threw 59 passes, completed 71% of them in his two starts. In Cassel's first two starts, threw 54 passes while completing 64.8% of them. In Garoppolo's two starts, he averaged 248 yards per game passing, 4 passing TDs, with ZERO interceptions, and a 85 QBR. Funny part is, it would've been significantly more yards and TDs if Miami didn't deliberately and successfully injure him after the 1st quarter. In Cassel's first two starts, he averaged 148 yards per game passing, 2 passing TDs , with one interception, and a mediocre 48.85 QBR and he played every quarter of those two games and he had Randy Moss on his team . Cassel was 26 years old when he started and Garoppolo was 24. To be fair, Cassel got better as the season went forward but my point still stands, I knew Cassel was limited the moment I saw him, I don't see that with Garoppolo. There's no telling how much better he would've gotten as the season went on like Cassel did. However, from what I saw from both QBs, Garoppolo is smarter than Cassel, more talented, has a significant better arm, more mobile and has a much higher ceiling than Cassel ever did. So to me, comparing the two is asinine. I'm not moving Garopollo if I'm New England, I believe in his potential unlike the previous young QBs we've had.

Cassell was a good QB. Garropalo has had 2 career starts. Comparing the two is an insult to Cassell.
