Let's Bet: Thursday Night NYG @ Philly

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Dec 20, 2016 6:11 pm

I may put a large sum of money on this game so I'm seeking opinions. If this game is a pass to you, feel free to mention any NFL game this week, or a College Bowl game. Any input is greatly appreciated.

NYG are a -2.5 point favorite @ Philly +2.5

Well the Giants are my team so of course I say they win. Our track record is coming alone we've only beaten the team everyone considers the best "Twice" this year in Dallas, which has gotten us from maybe Wildcard to if we win all our last games and if Dallas doesn't we lead the NFC East.

I would certainly take the Giants at that line. The Giants have only gotten better as the season has progressed while the Eagles have only gotten worse. But I tend to avoid betting on Thursday night games because weird stuff happens.

Giants are in playoff-mode, they'll beat the Eagles, Most probably a fact.

Yeh I think the Giants are a pretty safe bet to cover, even though Eli's sporadic play kind of worries me.

Just out of curiousity, what's the large sum?

I can't imagine the Eagles offense accomplishing much against that defense. I find -2.5 more than reasonable. Even with it being a division rivalry.

I used to be a fairly big gambler and this appears to be a no brainer on the Giants. Almost to much so, which is what scares me. In this case if I was going to put a large sum of money on it I would try and understand why the spread is so low.

I typically don't like gambling as much on division road games because these are historically just tough to win, usually regardless of who the teams are, except in rare cases like the Browns and maybe some of the years with dominant teams.

The Giants still have a chance at the 1 seed and Philly is out of it, so is the motivation there? All signs point to this. I'd read what Dave Tuley has to say about it. He loves taking home dogs, but I'd like to see why he would take this one. I bet he would lay off this one or possibly it would be a rare case where he would actually take the favorite at that line. I'd be surprised if that line doesn't move though so if that is the way you are leaning I'd figure it out quick to get that spread.

I like the Eagles tonight - They are 9-4 vs. NYG since 2010, and while both teams have been different one thing has remained the same for the Giants and that's been Eli Manning.

Game means 0 for the Eagles playoffs wise but still very much on the line with many players fighting for a job next year.

Which is why I don't bet on pro football...

This is why obvious Vegas spreads scare the hell out of me and why I stopped gambling. Most of the time I would bet the other way on something that seemed like Vegas was baiting you to bet...less than 3...the better team. But this one looked great. I normally go against the grain but wouldn't have on this one and Vegas cleaned up. I think 90% of the thousands of pigskin pickem participants picked the Giants and that is probably reflective of the betting in Vegas to a large extent.

I hope guys who bet the NYG didn't wager too much! Just looked at the box score and Manning threw the ball 64 times? Holy crap!

I passed on the Giants.
The line kept moving all over the place, NYG favored by multiple points, Philly being favored by 1, so I went with my second option.

Old Dominion Money Line -230

Followed by this parlay:
Old Dominion -260 (30 point increase after my solo money line play on them)
USC NCAAB -550

I hope you won those. I once bet 300 -350 on the money line...I think the only time I bet the money line except with the Moore/Foreman fight which I also lost. So I lost $1050 on the Chargers...this is when they were really good. Not my biggest loss, but second biggest. I was chasing money which is a bad thing.

I won mostly before that and win even more consistently after that, but pick and choose carefully. Don't bet much any more. It's somewhat fun. I love long odds to win a lot so I bet 3 or more game parlays when I can and hit enough to come out ahead. But haven't this year...did last year.

Yes, I won both of those.

I've been doing this thing for a very long...long time and I have received that ML plays are best for me. I like to mix an ATS line into a parlay ever so often, but for my system, I tend to lean towards money line solo plays or parlayed.
