Was Cam Newton's 2015 season just a fluke?

Cam Has always been a decent but below average QB since coming into the league. A guy with a good arm, but poor accuracy and below average vision.

He did have one breakout year in 2015 and won MVP. Most thought that this would be the start of Cam's climb into elite status and would eventually start putting up consistent big numbers like Brady, Brees, and Rodgers year in and year out.

Cam in 2016 gets back his best WR and best RB but then goes back to his mediocre numbers.

Can Cam still become an elite QB or was 2015 just a fluke season for Cam?

He'll need better o line and his defensive stars to not leave or get hurt but yes this really pointed out Cam's weakness, the whinning, the silly post game interviews did not help him in credibility department.

No. He'll be better going forward. Didn't have much help this year. Gotta have a line to protect him.

I disagree that he's "been a decent but below average QB" since coming into the league. He's always been good, just not always elite, aside from last year. In some ways I do think that last year was a little bit of a fluke, I don't expect that to be the norm for him and I don't know if he'll ever hit those kinds of numbers again. But he's still a very good quarterback. His offensive line was awful this season, they had all kinds of injuries and while some quarterbacks like Russell Wilson can still be solid when his line breaks down, it really limits Cam's abilities.

Give him a healthy, solid offensive line and a running back better than Jonathan Stewart and he'll be looked at as one of the best again.

My dream draft for the Panthers this year is that we pick up an OT like Cam Robinson in the first round, then a RB either in the second round or in free agency.

Yes. I think Cam is more on the same level as Vinny Testaverde or Joe Flacco. I don't think Cam will ever become elite like the next Elway or Marino.

I think Cam is a career 80.0 QB Rating.

Even though i think Cam will never become an elite QB, i do think he is good enough that you can win a Super Bowl with, with an elite defense, just like Flacco or Eli Manning.

Brady, Brees, Ryan, and Rodgers all have horrible defenses and are asked to put up big numbers every game. I don't think Cam has that in him.

Cam is not good enough to build around, but he is good enough to a piece of a championship team. If only the Panthers can build an elite defense and get an elite pass rusher like Von Miller, Justin Houston, or Watt, and an elite secondary and just ask Cam not to do that much like Russell Wilson and just manage the game, i think Cam still has a chance.

He's Chad Pennington with mobility.

this might be the worst comparison. pennington couldnt throw for more than 10 yards, newton lead the league in deep throw accuracy just last year, and has one of the most 40+ yards passes this year. heck entire panthers passing attack built on big yardage plays instead of short efficient passes.

I'd wait until Newton gets a solid offensive line before talking down on the guy.
