Offense wins Championships

Post#1 » by Celtsfan1980 » Tue Jan 24, 2017 10:38 am

Normally defense wins Championships, but this season many good teams rely more on their offense. Some are young. Are we looking at a new era where offense-first teams win many championships?

I'm not sure I agree. The past 5 Super Bowl champs have been very solid defensive teams. The Broncos even won it without an existing offense last year

Granted... but if you have a upper echelon QB it sure makes things easier. Even ol' Peyton as rag-armed as he was... he didn't make mistakes to cost the Broncos the game. Unlike Cam.

Which explains the Cowboys woes over the past...well, 20 years

Haha I'm only kidding. I've gotta back up my boy Cam.

You've got a good point though. IMO defense still is what wins championships, but a great QB makes it exponentially easier. But at the same time, Flacco has a ring and Eli has two.

Yup. Granted Both Eli & Flacco had a defense to fall back on. Unless you have Tom Brady, and BB as your head coach chances are you won't win without atleast a decent defense.

What's to like about Cam... He got benched for not wearing team dress code this year. (Opening drive vs SEA.) . His gloating has hurt his team Payton did enough not to make mistake. Broncos RB and defense won that SB. Panthers D is major factor they got to it and running game.

You're either trolling or blinded by hate.

What is there to like about a QB who turned our franchise around, led us to a 15-1 season and a chance at the Super Bowl, won the MVP, is considered widely as one of the top QB's in the league, and is still only 27 years old? He (and the team) had a mediocre season this year. Big deal. That happens all the time after teams lose the Super Bowl. That doesn't take away from the fact that he's a damn good quarterback and many teams would kill to have a guy like him.

If the biggest knock you have on the guy is seriously that "he gloats and he was benched for dress code" than I'm really not too worried. I've never seen so much undeserved hatred for a guy in the NFL. So he dances when he scores TD's? Focus your hate on the guys who beat their wives and kids, strangle their girlfriends, drive under the influence.

He's been called for unsportsmanlike flags . You can't do that as QB . He's not my most hated guy in the league but all crying about being hit with his attitude and the way he carries himself is bit much.

So have Phillip Rivers, Jameis Winston, Carson Palmer, and Jay Cutler. I mean, it happens.

I can get how people don't like his personality. He wears dumb outfits and is very confident in his abilities. But that doesn't detract from what he does ON the field.

And for the record, NO quarterback in the NFL is treated as poorly by the refs as Cam Newton is. If Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers (hell, even a guy like Flacco or Tannehill) took half the hits that Cam takes there would be a league-wide investigation. So I'd say the "crying about being hit" is pretty valid.

From a ref standpoint it appears to me a QB who gets out of the pocket a lot is going have a more difficult time getting a call.

I don't always agree with what Sherman does. But, I'd still take him over just about any CB in the league.

Nah. Way out of my scope. I'll just stick with the Mavs board.

Or Drew Brees. Or both Mannings(Giants allowed 400 points in 2011). Or possibly Ryan in a few weeks. They've won as many Championships as Brady has without having a good defense:one.
