Who is best team in NFC?

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Mon Nov 13, 2017 5:25 am

I was going to ask between Philly and New Orleans, but gotta throw the Rams in there too. And since the Vikings have the same record, I will throw them in there.

Philly I thought was most impressive, but the Saints are looking better every week and the Rams are dominating. Then, the Vikings keep winning, but not as dominating as the others.

These three to me have been more impressive as of late than any AFC teams, but of course the Eagles and Rams, if they were to make it to the Super Bowl, they very likely might have to face a vet playoff super bowl champ in Brady or Big Ben, or even an experienced one in Smith. Brees of course has a championship of his own.

I'm excited to see if one of the NFC teams can make it, particularly the Eagles and Rams, but the Saints would also be a nice surprise and I've also always liked the Vikings. Can't stand any of those three AFC teams. Tired of them. KC is somewhat exciting for once...they have always bored me in year's past but they finally have some exciting skill players.

Definitely the Eagles right now.

On a semi-related note, funny how so many people were down on Goff/Wentz are prospects and now they might be leading the best two teams in the NFC in their second years.

I don't think there is a clear cut leader. The Eagles are very balanced but have also lost some key players to injury. The Rams are good. But, can be beat obviously. The Saints looked really impressive today. Minnesota has a very good defense. But, I'm still not sold on Keenum or their QB situation going forward.

I'd give the slight edge to Philly because of their record, but I don't think New Orleans or possibly the Rams are that far behind.

The Rams play the other 3 teams in the next 4 weeks, so we'll really get an idea of where they rank.

I probably feel that the Eagles are the most legit elite team, the other 3 have been good but I need to see a little more.

Next 4 for the Rams;

@ Vikings
Saints
@Cardinals
Eagles

You're right. At the end of that stretch we will have a good sense about the Rams... as well as the others.

Vikings schedule;

Rams
@Lions
@Falcons
@Panthers

Eagles;

@Cowboys
Bears
@Seahawks
@Rams

Saints;

Redskins
@Rams
Panthers
@Falcons

I'll be a homer and argue for my Rams - don't understand why people seem to be higher on the Saints (the OP said they will "throw the Rams in there too"). We've played some bad teams, but impressive road wins against Dallas and Jacksonville. Best point differential in the NFL. Vikings and Saints don't really have more impressive wins (maybe New Orleans win @Carolina).

Eagles --- Saints --- Rams

I think those are the clear top 3 in no order with the Seahawks and Vikings right behind them. Dont think the Panthers are for real.. and the fully healthy Packers and Cowboys should be in the discussion as well.

Eagles I think will tail off - Wentz has a history of slowing down dating back to college. Saints are ranked more theoretically, because their defense is looking good, their running game is looking good, and Brees is running the show. The Rams I think are extremely balanced and are letting Goff take steps as he's able, which has been crazily beneficial for his development. The Saints will tail off in the next year or 2, but the Eagles/Rams are the future of the NFC

I'm gonna make a nice bit of coin if/when the Rams win their division, and my friends are going to owe me $80 (4 x $20) when Goff finishes in the top 15 of QBs. He's QB8 now with Watson still ahead of him :D

They are the new team to beat in the division and dont appear to be giving that up any time soon. Just lock up Aaron Donald already

The Vikings did beat the Saints, and fairly easily.

Fun fact...I mean I know that we all know the ESPN QBR stat is complete garbage, but check out Goff's stats on ESPN - his QBR was 44 yesterday which is below average...

I've hated the stat and dismissed it since it came out, but that's still mind boggling to me

Yea I forgot about that game. That's still their only win against a team with a winning record though (but the Redskins win yesterday was impressive)....all of their schedules are about to get a lot tougher (Rams, Saints and Vikings)

True. The Saints were awful their first two games. This isn't week one anymore though. Saints are a completely different team since then and if they play in the playoffs, I'd expect the Saints to be favored and to win.

I'd expect the home team to be favored. The Saints aren't the same team anymore, but at the same time I need more than a half of a season before I'm completely convinced they won't revert back to what they were, or at least capable of laying an egg.

Actually I just wasn't thinking about the Rams when I started it. I looked at the Saints score, because I remember looking at their schedule and wins/losses when picking them over the Bills (who I thought was a pretty tough team) and the Saints had been beating people pretty easily, and the Eagles had just crushed the Broncos last week, so I was just going to originally do one with those two, but then realized I can't leave out the Rams. I'm not necessarily higher on the Saints....I mean all three teams are surprising considering expectations..I wasn't even sure who I'd pick.

I didn't vote.

QB8 according to what metric?

Yahoo standard points. I made a claim in preseason or week 1 that Goff would be a top 15 QB, made the same claim at work, and found 4 suckers :D

I think, IIRC, bmurph was the only one who agreed with me, so calling back to that here

It wouldnt terribly surprise me, Goff has benefit from some serious lapses in coverage and some great RAC ability from his receivers. There's still a ton of room for him to grow. It actually tells me that his receivers and his line have done a tremendous job, even though Watkins and Woods' #s are a bit under what you'd expect from a top 10 fantasy QB.

But right now I'd say Goff is a + game manager with some ability to sling it, and will continue to progress with a great line, a quality trio of WR, a stud RB, and one of the best offensive minds in the game as a HC
