49ers struck gold with Jimmy G

4-0 record and going into the draft they dont have to worry about QB because that has now been addressed. what a steal of a trade. Belichick definitely messed up this trade and traded at the lowest leverage point, and the 49ers got their franchise qb . SF can now address their other holes and they will be the next Rams in how they immediately turn around. Feel bad for Browns, but I get a feeling Belichick would never trade him there because didnt CLE fire him back in the day?

There's been a lot of speculation on sports yak that Belichick probably would have rather moved off of Brady and kept Garoppolo, but Kraft wouldn't have it. There's just no way with as shrewd and cold blooded as he has been with personnel over the years that he would just not know the market value of what he's holding. Even at the point they made the trade, the leverage would have been their's as long as a second team would have been interested. My guess is that it's not too difficult to generate interest in a potential franchise QB that has been able to show his potential with real NFL snaps on his resume.

I don't know exactly when Belicheck could have traded him with Brady at 40 and Garappolo as a FA. Before this year, you had to assume Jimmy was the heir apparent, but if Brady wants to play past this year Jimmy is going to walk as a FA. Kind of a rock and hard place situation. I think you could argue the best move would be to cut Brady given his age, but man that would take balls.

Hindsight, and that hindsight might look different in a year or two (ie should kept Garappolo).

Yup, and I think them holding onto him through the draft told most teams that they were keeping him through this year, and possibly beyond.

Not only the Browns, but many other teams should be kicking the hell out of themselves for letting the Niners get him for that price. The Bears, the Jags, the Broncos, the Jets/Dolphins/Bills (though I doubt Pats would trade in division if they could avoid it), Bengals, Cardinals.. so many teams needed a long-term answer at QB. Niners are going to get their franchise QB for a pick in the 40s.

I see in the very near future a new revived top rivalry in the NFC that involves the Cowboys and 49ers !!! The early 70's and 90's all over again.

Cousins will likely be a free agent, and was frequently linked to San Fransisco. You'd have to see who plays better between the two as to whether it was a good decision.
