Alex Smith. Where does he go?

If the Chief's and Alex Smith decide to part ways, where does he go? Jacksonville might be a good place if if Blake Bortles craps the bed this weekend.

Last I read the Jaguars don't have much cap space next season. The Vikings, Bills, or Cardinals. Vikings would be my first guess.

Jags have already made it known that they're committed to Bortles past this season. Denver seems like the optimum fit, but Chiefs likely won't trade within the division. I'm thinking the Cards or Redskins (depending on Cousins).

Please - let him go to the Redskins if Cousins leaves.
Because all of those fools wishing for Cousins' departure the last couple of years deserve it.

No shortage of teams that could use some QB help:
Bills
Dolphins
Jets
Broncos
Bengals
Browns
Jaguars
Giants
Cardinals
Now of those teams, let's take out the playoff teams (Bills, Jaguars)
Now of the remaining teams, take out the AFC teams who could conceivably make the playoffs with Smith at QB (Broncos, Jets*)
Now take out the teams that have a placeholder QB & a high draft pick (Giants, Jets*)
*Jets are enough of both of these categories to count them out, IMO
Leaves us with 4 options: Dolphins, Bengals, Browns, Cardinals
IMO the Browns are the favorite. Former KC GM who traded for Smith originally. Big need at QB considering there isn't a consensus #1 QB in this draft and a lot of them seem raw. Have the most assets to part with. My #2 team would be the Cardinals, because they are a NFC team, and might feel pressed to trade for a vet to keep Fitzgerald on the field. Bengals and Dolphins are present, but unlikely. Tannehill and Dalton could both be cut with minimal penalty though, so they are in play. My bet is Smith is on the Browns come 2018-19, along with Saquan Barkley (#1) and Sam Darnold (#4). Also wouldn't surprise me to see the Browns trade up to land someone like Christian Kirk or Calvin Ridley to give Smith a quality route-running slot option (at least in year 1)

I think the Vikings are far more likely to sign one their current guys. Most likely Case or Teddy if he is too expensive.

The Jags could easily clear caproom by cutting Bortles, Chris Ivory, and Allen Hurns. The Jags said they back Borltes, but it's too early to say that he is definitely going to be back next year.

I dont think KC is going to trade him to a team that could challenge them in the AFC though. If Jax moves on from Bortles, I would expect them to pursue Cousins, Eli, or whoever Minny doesn't sign. I actually think Tyrod Taylor would be a good signing too, because of how well he protects the ball. Would help Fournette as a dual threat, and really cement the team's defense/run first style

Bortles isn't a top QB but I don't think Alex Smith or Kirk Cousins is better than Bortles. I see all 3 on the same level. Only way Jaguars don't start Bortles is if we get Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers, not a chance.

No, they're both better!
Cousins can be good when he has a clean pocket & a decent running game. Not elite by any means. But, still better than most.
Alex Smith isn't great. Won't win you a game, but he'll keep you in it. Bortles is too inconsistent.

Bills. They need a transition quarterback and I'm done with Tyrod.

The Jets might be the best fit. You'd have to think he could do at least a little better than McNown. He could start for a couple years while you rebuild the rest of the team and hopefully stumble across a long term successor somewhere along the way.

I think it will be a veteran team
so
Denver (if chiefs decide to trade with the division)
Cardinals
Bills?
