I didn't think he'd get anywhere near 13 million on average. Good for him. It just sucks he ended up there of all teams.

As someone who tore his achillies tendon, like Sherman did, all I can say as I was never the same playing competitive basketball after that. I don't think you too much to worry about.

I got no problem with him signing with the 49ers. We had our chance, we let him go. He got a great deal with a team in his home state of California that's on the rise. Good for him.

Yeah, it's sucks that he's on a team in our division. But what can you do? Can't fault him for it.

13m AAV? Wow. I’m glad the Niners were so willing to take themselves out of the Trumaine Johnson race

It's basically 10 million in guarantees, the 1st year. If he stays healthy & makes the Pro Bowl (it's 13 million in total) & another 16 million would then also be guaranteed (for the 2nd & 3rd years).

I'm a little surprised he got that much coming off the injury. But, SF had to pay up or he likely wouldn't have signed right away.

I hate it. But, I still love the guy.

It sounds like it is structured in a way that gives the 49ers a lot of outs. Richard Sherman is really betting on himself here.

As a 49ers fan, I hate it. Personal reasons aside, I see a 30 year old corner, who has been declining the last few years, coming off a serious injury. Throw in the fact that he had feuded at times with coaches, management, and players, and I just want nothing to do with him.

That said, he is a 49er now and I very much would love to see him prove me wrong.

He had the 2nd best "completion percentage against" in the league amongst CBs last year. I don't think he's washed up talent wise. It's just a matter of how well his body responds to the surgery on his Achilles. Apparently he'll be running on a treadmill starting next week, and I'm pretty sure the Niners had his medical reports checked out before handing him a $5M check (hopefully, at least).

Michael Crabtree, Brent Grimes, and Demaryous Thomas all came back from a busted Achilles. So let's see how Sherman does. I could still see them taking a DB in the early part of the draft, particularly if they can get a hybrid CB/S like Minkah Fitzpatrick somehow who would learn under Sherman and take some of the pressure off of him.

Negotiating With The Enemy: Inside the Richard Sherman-49ers Contract Talks

“We had something no other team could offer,” Lynch said.

What?

“The ability to play Seattle twice a year,” Lynch said.

When that was relayed to Sherman, he paused for a second.

Sherman said: “I’m vengeful in that way.”

That’s what it sounded like. But I wanted to make sure. I asked him to repeat that.

“Vengeful,” Sherman said. “I love the fan base to death, and I loved playing there. It was such a great opportunity. I helped the organization get to a great place and stay there. But now it’s like I abandoned them. People are out there burning my jersey. Come on. I’m not the one who let me go. They let me go. I didn’t abandon anybody.”

Why am I not surprised!?

I've always found him tad overrated but even at 75 percent of last year he is servicable, if not he is gone next year anyway. Sticking it to seaddrell is well worth 5 mil.

It's gonna be funny seeing Whiner fans completely change their tune on him. All of sudden they "love" the guy.

Paying a 30 year old CB coming off an Achilles injury & a player that also recently had another surgical procedure on his other foot (Bone Spurs), the logical move was in fact to let him go. The team was never going to pay him his projected salary. Most fans understand this. What might upset some, is that he decided to join a rival. But, I have no issue with him leaving.
