The NFL draft is coming up and year after year, i hate how analysts and fans criticize QB prospects' heights as like if it even matters when playing the QB position or being successful

Why don't people criticize Rodgers for being short? At the combine measurements in 2005, Rodgers is only 6'1, an inch taller than Drew Brees, and two inches taller than Russell Wilson.

Why do scouts and analysts keep preferring 6'5 QBs and keep criticizing shorter QBs, when previously drafted tall QBs end up being bust?

I would think its because unless you are an elite QB, Brees, Wilson, etc.. Then it is definitely an advantage to be taller and be able to see over the line. 6'2 and up is kind of standard for qbs.

This is a little outdated but not much.

Because when you're that good you can be any height you want to be.....

I agree. Alex Smith basically got drafted over Rodgers just because he is 6'4 and Aaron is 6'1. Its really dumb now to talk about QB height and really dumb to hear people say that a 6'1 or 6'0 guy can't see and throw over his OLine.

It doesn't make much sense criticize a QB for being short after they've already proven to really good.

Actually, with Wilson it definitely makes a big difference.

He does a good job of getting deeper drops, but he bails out of the pocket too soon quite a bit.

I don't think it matters THAT much, but Brady and Manning are arguably the best two QBs to ever play....so there's that.

On the flip side Favre, Young, Montana - and there are a slew of other QBs that are not "prototype" height.

Wilson is the only one that it actually holds back of that group IMO, which is why I don't consider him to be a top flight QB.

He's a really good player - from that perspective I have come around lol.

People really are just doing him a disservice when they say he's a top 5 QB though. Just as an example: Drew Brees carried his offense for years in New Orleans without a top flight RB, top WRs or a top OL - often stuck on mediocrity because of their defense, which Brees had no control over.

Those guys all were made to look better than they were - but I would be hard pressed to even name the LTs that blocked for Brees. He did have some solid interior OL, but he made Marques Colston into a household name, and had Jimmy Graham looking infinitely better than he did in Seattle. The best RB that Brees has had was probably Ingram (until Kamara), who was considered a first round bust for years.

Now, this comparison is not fair to Wilson because Brees is light years better than him - but then that's kind of my point. When people talk about the top QBs, I've seen a lot of Rodgers/Brady/Brees/Wilson - that's insane to me, unless you're acknowledging that there's a big gap there between 3 and 4.

Jared Goff IMO was the extreme example of what I'm talking about last year: he had a season statistically that when you look at it, was one of the best in the NFL. But I wouldn't even have him cracking the top 10 yet. All about circumstances.

Is Brees a better pocket passer? Yes. Does he have a better body of work? Obviously. He's been in the league forever. Is he lightyears better tho? Lol. I may be biased for obvious reasons. But, with the season he just had, I dont think it's ridiculous when people want to compare him to the other "Elites" and say he's top 5. I'd actually argue that he's on the verge of becoming an "Elite" QB in this league. And it's really not that hard of an argument when you look at his numbers. The fact that the supportive cast has gradually gotten worse around him. The guy lead the team in rushing yards. By a significant margin too. And Despite not having a running game or a functional O-line for the most part, he still went on to lead the league in TD's last year. Pretty remarkable if you ask me.

Wilson is nothing special. Been riding off the coattails of his defense since his arrival. Over rated.

Rodgers isn’t short. I met him multiple times when he played at Butte and we were pretty much eye to eye (I’m 6’3”).

Rodgers measured 6'2" at the combine, not 6'1". Makes a difference. Rodgers' predecessor was 6'2" as well.

Wouldn't make sense to "criticize" a player for their height after they were already good. If anything they deserve more praise for overcoming that disadvantage.

It's not criticism anyway. You're being too sensitive. It's analysis. Sometimes it's accurate and others it isn't. They are playing the odds and GM's are trying to figure out who are the exceptions like Russell Wilson.

Well it turns out a bunch of teams really liked Mayfield so perhaps the league is coming around.

I'm not a Mayfield fan, but its good to see the NFL finally not care so much about high especially for the QB position, especially when you have short guys like Brees, Rodgers, and Wilson playing like HOFers.

Arod doesn't get criticized for being short because he is good. Just like Iverson didn't. I mean what would one say critical about Rodgers height? Man.... he's really good. Won a lot and been an MVP but he's only 6'2 damn it. I mean I dunno....
