Possible New Anthem Rules
Per various outlets the League is considering a major rule change. It is a two part rule being discussed
1. Home team decides if both teams stay in locker room or go onto field.
2. If on the field all players must stand and any player who kneels will be assessed a 15 yard penalty.

Some thoughts:
Here are the following other areas that should also be penalized if we are oh so concerned about respecting the flag:
1. Ticket entry - all entrances to the stadium should stand still for the anthem.
2. Concessions - all concessions must cease and stand still for the anthem.
3. Fans - all fans must cease movement and stand still for the anthem, including on concourses and other non-seating areas.
4. Camera crews - all camera crews must cease movement and stand still for the anthem.
Failure on the part of any individual should result in the assessment of a 15 yard penalty against the home team, except if said violating fans are wearing opposing team colors/gear.
I mean, if people CARE SO MUCH about the Flag and Anthem then make sure EVERYONE respects it. Let's see how fast public interest fades once it starts to infringe on their ability to act.

Just go back to the way it used to be. Play the anthem then let the teams come out. The league is trying to have it both ways and there is no way they can win in this.
So - just stop.
So - just stop.

I agree. That was kinda the intent of my post, it's an absurd issue.

Yeah - I took your post exactly as you meant it... with tongue planted firmly in cheek. This thing has moved beyond ridiculous. And based on the history of why they started doing it in the first place (money), it's outlived its usefulness.
It didn't seem to hurt the game in the 80's or 90's to keep the team off the field while the anthem played. I don't see the point anymore other than to serve the interests of a few myopics.

I've always wanted politics out of sports. Its just a matter of time before politicians ruin sports. Stay the hell away from our theraputic escape from the daily grind of everyday life and the real world that we have to put up with.

5) Bathrooms will be barred and fans will refrain from urinating and emptying their bowels during the national anthem.

No. Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I think the national anthem should be played before...
--Movies in theaters
--Concerts of all kinds
--Awards shows like the Oscars
--Authorized political rallies
--Campaign appearances
--Religious services
--etc...
It's about time that all public gatherings start taking the example set by sports.

No, what we need to play the national anthem twice. Just in case the first one doesn't remind people this is murca.

It is... in military theaters.
Which was always a good time for us serious minded airmen to stand at attention and go "Psssshhhhh!!!!" every time the cymbals go off during the anthem. And as the theater was dark, it wasn't like some officer with a burr up his arse was going to issue a Letter of Reprimand or something.
Good times.

I only have one requirement for the anthem. No more than 1 1/2 minutes. More than that and you are toying with the crowd.

Re: Possible New Anthem Rules
Why don't they play the national anthem before every show starts and ends. How about having it played at least once during all commercial breaks. I never understood why Pro Sports was the one time the national anthem is played before each game. Sure, I get it's inclusion in the Olympics for the gold medal team or individual but before every pro sports game when almost every game is an American based team vs. an American based team.

It isn't limited to pro sports. College, high school, etc as well.

They should have to play the Anthem at the start of every hole when Trump golf every weekend.

Sadly the NFL apparently took it serious.
Vierwership is down because they oversaturated the weekly market which also killed options for Sunday matchup. Second, they neutered one of the main reasons we loved the game, bonecrushing hits on ALL players, including pansy qbs like Brady.

Re: Possible New Anthem Rules
At the end of the day, the whole reason this became such a mess for the NFL is because of Goodell's total and utter mishandling of the situation.
Even if this issue goes away, I am sure there will probably be another huge controversy surrounding the NFL due to Goodell's incompetence.

And now, we have a new flag football league. Wonder how they will legislate out groin pulls?
