The Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott have come to terms on a six-year, $90 million contract extension, a source told ESPN on Wednesday.

The deal has $50 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder, surpassing Todd Gurley's $45 million as the most for an NFL running back. Elliott, 24, was under contract through 2020 and was set to make $3.853 million in 2019 and $9.09 million on the fifth-year option in 2020, making his total compensation through 2026 more than $100 million, which makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

It's not clear when the deal will be announced because Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his son, executive vice president Stephen Jones, are in New York to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

The way the Cowboys are built, Zeke is more than worth the price they are paying him. Keeping him out of trouble is the only worry here. Kid is a beast. Smash mouth football is back in Big - D. Outside this forum, Cowboys getting a lot of love. When the weather gets bad, when it gets cold in December and January and the wind starts blowing, the running game is the value.

Gordon is screwed. He has zero leverage. He can't even become a FA next offseason unless he joins the team by week 11 at the latest, and now he would have to play under his current contract instead of what the Chargers were offering. He isn't worth as much as the higher paid ones anyway. Chargers are just about as good with their backups...I doubt they will miss him much unless Ekeler gets injured.

Paying Dak on the other hand, 30-plus Million a season, will. Once he gets paid & his new deal kicks in (Next season), they will have to make a bunch of tough decisions over the next 1-2 years & then their window will close.

Yeah that's true. It will more so be over paying the QB. I'm a Steelers fan so I've seen how a solid team and system can allow almost any RB to have success. Zeke is behind the best line in football.

I've seen James Connor and an older DeAngelo Williams be beasts behind the same line Bell was awesome behind. I just think more and more it's important to build your line and even if you have a meh running back you'll be fine.

A few years ago when the Eagles won the Superbowl they had a committee. The Pats have never had a stud RB. Just a few examples.

We saw Anderson who was cut by a bad team join the Rams and go off behind their line.
