So you want to know how a guy like me, born and raised in Maine became a Cowboy fan?

My dad was a big Niners fan because of Steve Young (my family was born and raised as BYU fans), I followed suit since being very little. Much like my Stockton jersey, I have a baby Steve Young Jersey that I would wear.

The first game I ever attended was in the Kingdome ('99). This was also Mike Holmgren's first year with the team.
I remember also watching & getting into the draft the same year we took Shaun Alexander (2000). The team sucked for a couple of years before eventually moving into Century Link. Then things started to get rolling. With a core of Matt Hasselbeck, Alexander & a great offensive line.

Re: How & why did you become a fan of your team?
i grew up in iowa, which doesn't have any professional sports teams. my parents aren't really into sports so i didn't get any push from them. i wasn't really into watching sports until i just sort of gravitated toward them when i was 11-12. the vikings were the 'local' team in our tv market so i was able to see them every week. this was around the time of daunte culpepper and randy moss - which was very fun and exciting to watch so i was hooked
but they did show me early that it was going to be a rough fandom (even if i didn't realize it at the time). i think i remember seeing the 98 championship game but i wasn't in deep yet so i didn't think much of it. but i do distinctly remember the 01 championship game (41-0 loss to the giants), which really bummed me out.

When I was young I watched the 1963 NFL title game between the Bears and the Giants, which the Bears won 14-10. I just loved the way the Bears played then, the ferocity of their defense. Been a Bears fan ever since, going on 60 years now.

Re: How & why did you become a fan of your team?
Just started watching this season, because family dragged me into fantasy football...
Alvin Kamara, got me interested in saints.
John Brown, got me interested in Buffalo.
DK Metcalf, got me interested in Seahawks.
Zach Ertz, got me interested in Eagles.
And my defense was the rams, alongside having Jared Goff.
Since I just don’t like the 76ers, that soured me on Philly, so the Eagles were a no-go... plus Ertz only really started putting in good performances when I traded him
I really don’t like NCIS New Orleans, so they are off the table as well.
I don’t even know where Buffalo is, so can’t really support them...
So it was down to Rams and Seahawks, and I don’t like the Lakers at all, so that should of turned me away from the rams... but man I love how much of a roller coaster it was supporting Jarred Goff through the season, dude went from carrying me to the top 4, to ruining my finals chances in the same season...
But the way the SeaHawks rally behind Wilson, and seem like a strong unit, with their city behind them, and DK being young and getting to see him develop, not only as a player, but this kind of bromance with Wilson was to much to pass on.
Sorry it’s hella long, I do find it a pretty funny way of picking a team though.

After your first, you change, you mature, you dont just jump into things.
After getting dunked on for the first time, life becomes complex.

considering how easy it is to look up the location of any city, i find the dismissal of buffalo to be pretty flippant
nobody circles the wagon like the buffalo bills!

I was a big fan of cowboys and seahawks but realized they are mismanaged and have no future, then i saw a generational talent emerging in kansas city and became a lifelong chiefs fan!

Re: How & why did you become a fan of your team?
Seattle Seahawks - funny story. When I was a kid, I used to have the NFL 98 game & destroyed people with RB Rickey Watters when he was with the Eagles. When he came to the Seahawks in 2001 with Matt Hasselbeck already there coming from Green Bay & Shaun Alexander, I became a fan because of that. However, the more I watched them, the more I got into their playstyle & organization overall. I'm from central PA & my parents are diehard Steeler fans who tried to get me to like them in the beginning. Seattle has been & will always be my favorite NFL team - 19 years strong. GO HAWKS!!!

Cowboy fan since 1970. Jerry made me mentally ill so I became a Chiefs/Mahomes fan.

I liked using the Bears as my team in Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo Bowl for the NES / Super NES. They just stuck with me.

I use the word "fan" loosely with the NFL because I've been on like a 15 year hiatus. I was a Bucs fan from about 99-03. The staff in my grouphome when I was about 13 were all diehard Bucs fans and got me into it. Then the exciting early 00s defenses hooked me. I was a fan until a year or two after the Superbowl win over the Raiders.
I just kinda lost interest and fell away after that. With signing of Brady and exciting young core though of Godwin, Evans etc I decided this year I'm gonna follow again.

Do you bandwagon much?

Jesus....

Btw, Why didn't you decide to follow the Hawks when you lived up this way?

Re: How & why did you become a fan of your team?
Interesting how many people grew up in cities or with families that have strong, and local, allegiances, but went another way.
I'm Canadian, so I watched the CFL growing up, but when I moved away from home and started watching what I wanted instead of what my parents wanted, I tried the NFL.
I caught a bit of the Niners in the 90s (when playoff games made it to the Canadian channels with signals strong enough to reach rural areas), and was a Jerry Rice fan, so they were the first team I really had any fan affiliation with, but when I started actually watching the NFL regularly, it was 10 years later, and I gravitated towards the Packers. Watching Brett Favre pass the torch to Aaron Rogers, seeing a team play in a locale known for its difficult winter games, and being conceived of as a community-owned franchise, the Packers felt more like a home team to me than any other.
Lots of teams to like, though, and watching quality sport is a higher priority to me than any one player or team, so I'll watch whichever match-ups are the most intriguing and competitive.
