Now the sides are trying to work through the final issues, including getting the players to sign off on a 17-game regular season. That has yet to be agreed to, and would not take effect until 2021 at the earliest.
This would be fantastic. I'm just not sure the players union will actually agree to it.
Update:

I've always thought they should go to 7 once it split to 4 divisions and there were 32 teams. Too often a division winner gets in over a better team in a tough division.

The NFL responding to concussions by adding another game really sums it up

So does the NFL plan on giving one international game to every team? I'm sure the players are ecstatic about that.

i don't like the 17 game season because it throws off the perfect scheduling balance. the way the schedule works now just seems so perfect and harmonious and fair
17 games would mean uneven number of home and away games (unless everyone does have to do an international game which would be interesting)

Teams having different number of home games would be completely moronic.

Don't mind having the extra playoff team in each conference but I really don't like the 17 game season.

500 players didn’t vote out of about 2500 eligible. Vote approved by only 60 votes. This deal increases the minimum wage players, which is 60% of the NFL, by raising the minimum wage by $95k for the 2021 season and by $490k over the first 3 years of the 10-year deal.
Many players wanted to change votes and the players union rejected it.
Extra game means 65-70 more padded snaps with all the contact it entails.
However they’re cutting back the amount of padded practices so the total number of padded contact during the season is slightly lower.
But that could mean sloppier play, like more missed tackles and such.
Extra playoffs games for all teams except the top seed of each conference means more attrition from injuries, not to mention the extra regular season game and the fight for those extra playoffs spots.
It will be interesting to see like 5 years into the deal what kind of patterns emerge, whether the top seeds make the Super Bowl with greater frequency because other teams are playing the extra playoffs game.
Injury patterns should be interesting as well, whether more games are lost by vets, leading to more use of practice squad players in games, which again might diminish the level of play.

You'd rather have another Preseason game?
1 less Preseason game= Win

Maybe the Cowgirls will actually make the Playoffs now.

This is a horrible deal for the players. Absolutely horrific . They got steamrolled. I think demaurice Smith is a mole for the NFL working for nflpa
It's so bad I don't even know where to start .

I can't see how they can make a fair playing schedule adding one game for starters. Especially an odd number at that. Is it going to be an extra division game, conference game or inter - conference game? What if your already a playoff team and have to play a team like the Chiefs in week 17, lose and get knocked out of the playoffs? Plus I think 16 games is hard enough on the players as it is now.
To be honest, I'd much rather see the NFL go back to a 14 game schedule like they had in the 70's with 6 preseason games. Gives the coaches, etc., two more weeks to evaluate draft picks, free agents, walk ons etc., and less wear and tear on the starters.
Won't matter if the Cowboys make the playoffs and the NFC next year, they will lose in the Super bowl to the chief's.
