I don't think Stafford is that big of an upgrade honestly. Certainly not for two #1's.

Detroit is the winner here. Not sure what the Rams are doing...?

If I'm gonna give up that type of draft capital + Goff, I want Watson (not Stafford). Goff isn't great. But at minimum, he's a league average QB.

I guess it's official. L.A. teams hate 1st round picks.

Huge overpay by the Rams. I think the Texans would of accepted this for Watson

I like this for the LA Rams.
They had to give up more to get out of Goff's contract but Staff is an upgrade.

I agree this is a horrible overpay for Rams

this probably puts watson at 5 first round picks now

Well still probably screw it up, though

The Lions got a haul and the Rams got a significant upgrade. Stafford is better than people think. I actually like this for both teams.

Stafford is going to be a steal where he goes in fantasy drafts next year. He's way better than people think. Pair his talent with McVay's offensive mind and that defense, they're trouble.

feels like an NBA style trade to shave salary for picks.

in short i feel its a lateral move.
shows me more about the coach and the rams than goff.

as a bear fan id probably prefer goff to stafford.
goff fell off a cliff after the bears game a couple years back. he probably lost faith in mcveigh and never said anything.

I mean, Stafford demanded he be let out. I don't think salary was the real motivation here.

I was talking from the Rams perspective not Staffords

It feels like they're making a large upgrade at a premium position. Obviously Stafford is paid less and that works out well for them, but Stafford is a mammoth upgrade.

Dayyuum, Goff must've REALLY pissed some people off in LA. Going old. Loss of picks. Injury history. Detroit got younger playoff experienced QB. So its a bold move, they are at the Edge off the cliff. Its either suicide or a jump for glory

On the surface, yeah, the Lions got A LOT for him. The cap is reducing signifcantly though, and I don't know the Rams cap situation. They may have been forced to cut a bunch of important players otherwise. The cap is going down by over $20 million when it was projected to go up significantly so teams who have been planning to be around the cap could have been $30-$40 million over otherwise.

They are obviously going all in like Rodgers has kind of demanded with the Packers, by trading away the future for the now while they are stacked on defense.

It will be interesting to see how Stafford is in their system. If he thrives and becomes a top 10 QB and gets them to the SB, it might be deemed worth it, as QBs rule the league.

But from what we have seen from the players and the value given up, the trade seems really lopsided. But with a bidding war, the winning team probably really had to overpay in any situation.

The Rams didn’t get fleeced, either—this was the market rate. Detroit reportedly had more than half a dozen suitors offering at least one first-round pick, and the Lions considered Los Angeles’s package to be the best. Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Panthers offered this year’s no. 8 pick (!!!) and a later-round selection; Washington offered this year’s no. 19 pick and a third-round choice; the Colts offered a package of picks and players, but not this year’s no. 21 pick; and the Broncos offered “a pick swap” equivalent to “a late-first-round pick.”

Stafford netting two firsts and Goff is a larger return than just about anyone expected, but not by much. If any team hoped to land Watson for a modest haul, that hope is long gone. Never before has a 25-year-old, top-five QB been traded. Never! And based on Texans GM Nick Caserio’s public stance of having “zero interest” in trading Watson, Houston presumably won’t part with him for anything less than a monstrous offer. (Which could be a surprise, considering that the Texans, under their previous regime, spent two offseasons getting swindled in trades.)

Watson’s market should have already commanded a minimum of three or four first-round picks, which would still be a bargain. This is why the Jets, Dolphins, and Jaguars are currently the Texans’ three most attractive trade partners, as my colleague Riley McAtee recently noted. Watson’s no-trade clause means he can veto any deal, so he’s not limited to those three teams. But any other team interested in acquiring Watson will have to pony up a lot to get him. All Stafford’s deal has done is warm up your “THEY TRADED HOW MUCH???” reactions.

that might not necessarily be true, the other handful of offers could have been way less than the rams offer.
