Stafford in the HOF?

Post#1 » by Micah Prescott » Tue Feb 15, 2022 6:45 pm

This is being heavily debated right now and IMO it is an obvious "NO".

Stafford winning a ring *should* make it glaringly obvious to everyone that QBs do not win rings, organizations do.

If you just go by the baseline, stats and rings, he's on the bubble I think. He's probably going to throw for 60-65,000 yards in his career, right with guys like Matt Ryan and Phillip Rivers. I don't know if those guys are in, but now Stafford has the ring to go with it.

I think a lot will also depend on the last 4-5 years of his career. If he's on competitive teams and competes for more championships, he's in. If his teams disappoint and this Super Bowl season looks like an outlier, then probably not.

Since this is a QB friendly era I believe he should be judged against his peers and not stats from previous eras. Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Roethlisburger, Wilson pretty obviously have better cases to me. Then you have players like Rivers and Ryan that have a good case against him, I would have definitely had Stafford below them before this year but having a great regular season and then playoff run puts him in the convo. Then there's Eli with the 2 rings and not on teams like the 2021 Rams in terms of talent, and I think his non playoff run career has been bagged so much that it's probably become slightly underrated, some of the Int numbers are ugly but subjectively he never felt like a worse player than Lions Stafford to me. I would probably just leave out all of Rivers, Ryan, Stafford, Eli right now, there were too many elite QB careers in their time and they were on the 2nd level.

Matthew Stafford has ONE ProBowl...ZERO AllPros

Obviously no MVPs, not even a Super Bowl MVP

To me it's a no brainer. He doesn't belong.

Agreed. He’s no Jim Plunkett. And Jim Plunkett isn’t in the HoF.

And the argument of “well, he played in Detroit” isn’t going to carry much water either.

He's better than Jim Plunkett, although on a closer look Stafford's statistics are more mediocre than I realized. A mediocre QB rating and a lot of interceptions.

The one Pro Bowl surprised me, just because it's pretty easy to make the Pro Bowl. Even Eli made 4 Pro Bowls and Stafford is pretty clearly statistically superior to Eli.
