Is Travis Kelce the best TE of all time?

I'll respond later. Would seem like a homer opinion with me being a huge Chiefs fan, so I'll let you all go first.

Kelce
9,861 yards, 68 TDs
3x All-Pro
7x Pro-Bowl

Tony G
15,127 yards, 111 TDs
6x All-Pro
14x Pro-Bowl

So that would be a hard no.

Kelce - updated

2X Super Bowl Champion
4 Super bowl appearances & 5 straight AFC Championship games
10,344 yars, 69 TD's in 11 years of service thus far
4X All -pro
8X Pro-Bowl

Tony G

0 Super bowls and 0 Super Bowl appearances
15,127 yards, 111 TD's in 17 years of service
6X All-Pro
14X Pro Bowl

Considering the hardware and rings with years of service, I believe we are there. I don't believe Kelce will play another 6 years, but if he does, he will probably shatter almost all of Tony G's stats.

I'm not sure how much consideration you want to give Super Bowl championships to your tight end, but if you do, Gronkowski is in the discussion. Gronk probably should be in the discussion anyway.

I agree for sure. Just trying to stay with the thread. Gronk was a beast.

Yea he probably is and the only one with an argument over him is Gronkowski. Blocking is overrated at the TE spot anyway and Kelce is the best playoffs performer .

Gronk was a far more complete player than Kelce. Kelce is a WR. So to answer the OP's question - theoretically

I’ll disagree with the blocking is overrated part. When a team has a TE that can’t block (like Kelce, or Pitts), they essentially just become giant slot receivers.

While when you have actual TEs that can block, teams use that to their advantage. Kittle’s blocking ability is a huge part in SF’s offensive scheme. Gronk’s blocking back in the day was used big time.

I have Gronk #1, Tony Gonzalez #2 and Antonio Gates #3. Kelce is probably going to challenge Gates for #3 in the next few years if he continues to put up his usual stats. At some point Gonzalez for #2 in the next 3 years but for my money Gronk is #1 he was just so physically dominate and basically a cheat code in the red zone. If he didn't retire early I think it would be a no doubt whose #1. One thing people don't talk about is how damn good of a pass blocker Gronk was in his prime

You don’t measure nfl players by super bowls unless you’re talking QB. What a ridiculous post lol

You shouldn't even measure QBs with rings. Plenty of average QBs have won a ring while plenty of greats have no rings. But that does hold more weight than the TE position

Tony Gonzalez is still the better TE, it’s honestly not even close. Kelce just has the privilege of playing with one of the best QB’s of all time. What kind of numbers do you think Gonzalez would have put up with Mahomes as his QB?

Now he just went by Jerry Rice in an all time category. Would you like to revise your statement now?

Clearly it's Owen Daniels. He didn't date Taylor Swift though so he's a LOSER!

Unfortunately, injuries really shortened Gronk’s career. But at his best? He was the perfect TE, nothing he couldn’t do at an elite level. Was clearly a bit better than peak Kelce imo.

Speaking of blocking, Gronk was an absolute monster as a blocker throughout his career, and in his last SB run with TB when he wasn’t as dominant of a receiver anymore, he just absolutely owned the line of scrimmage as a blocker. Just an absolute unit. Don’t think that ability is overrated for TEs at all, he was a legit contributor to a SB without being a dominant pass catcher, and it’s because of how good of a blocker he was.
